A script that shows the users online and what they are doing, that is their profile, whether they are reading on the forum or are in the chat room?

I am unsure if this is the best way, but, what i would do is to record everytime a user goes to a certain page into a mysql database and use a cron to wipe it out every 5 mins, so if they havent clicked any links for 5 mins then they are shown as offline, then you can see the last plage they have been on within the last 5 mins.

Hope my idea helps
