What do you use?
I'm new to the site, just wondering what does everyone use to create their websites? I personally use dreamweaver and am an html junkie (probably because thats all that I really know what to do). But what do you use?

HTML can be extremely "powerful" when combined with CSS.
You can create beautiful websites using DW, html, css...
you can take a look at MS Web Developer Express Edition if you like MS tools.

My skills totally lack in photoshop, so I don't have many images, and if I do they're pretty basic, but I do have a copy of it for when I gather enough stamina to fool around in it. I do agree though, I haven't used dreamweaver since high school but once I started out with it again I picked up on css again and didn't realize how much they have updated since then.

I use good old fashion Notepad to hand-code HTML, CSS and Javascript, sometimes I attempt at a server-side language but alas rarely.
Technically I use Notepad++ but it's generally just Notepad with a few features such as syntax colour-coding.

VS 2005 is the dogs danglies for me, it includes excellent HTML validation and is seamlessly integrated with my langauge of choice c#. what more could you want?
Go on say it.... PHP! but I don't have time to start learning another language and i no where near a master of c# asp.net anyway so that comes first!

I actully use Notepad, because it's what I started with. I have dreamweaver and it makes things a bit easier. . . especially if you are debugging code.

Dreamweaver CS3.
If you use plain notepad you are missing a lot from the feature rich software packages liek CS3.
Not only is debugging nice but so are snippets, ftp, and access to your DB all from one location
I'm NOT saying you SHOULD use DW but you should def. give it or another package like it a shot.

The Database features are one of the only reasons I installed Dreamweaver, it makes it so much simpler, but you can get most of the other features in free open-source software but I have never come accross one as good.

I used to use notepad exclusively, but as mentioned above, DW has some nice features to make life just a little easier.
Syntax highlighting is the main reason I use DW. Errors sort of stick out where they would not be noticed in notepad. (without several minutes/hours of frustration) Saves time in the long run...

Way-back when I started I was die-hard for Notepad. I would wear it as a badge of pride that I designed in notepad. Times change, and people must keep up with the times and stay competative or else someone using something like DW could out-produce me and get someone's hard earned cash in their hand in place of mine, so I finally ditched notepad when I saw the majority of the industry switching over, when web-design was getting more and more complex, and WYSIWYG designers got more and more useful.
Here is my wonderful list of tools I use! - Zend Studio 5.5 (Primarily produced for developing PHP scripts, but is also very useful for any editing I run into producing websites. It's a very popular IDE and the best part is I can adjust the coloring of the editor. Black backgroud, and custom text font makes editing fun.)
- Dreamweaver CS3 (Combined with Photoshop CS3 it provides very nice application synergy. CS3 is really a nice upgrade.)
- Photoshop CS3 (I upgraded from PS7 directly to CS3, but dabbled with CS2 a bit but I never took the plunge to professionally accept it as my new operating tool. When CS3 came and I found out that it supported working with 3D modeling and capable of taking Maya/Lightwave/Poser models and editing it directly I had no choice but to upgrade.)
- Microsoft Visio 2007 (I never depended on a MS product for development since when I was a very, very, very young developer using FrontPage, but now I'm back to MS using their Visio application. Visio is outstanding for mapping, planning, script flow design, and generally planning out a site using charts.)
- FileZilla (A nice open source FTP client I use.)
I'm always interested in programs that will make my life nicer and more productive, and this is my list so far. Productivity and output is the name of the game.

For HTML I try to stick to just the editor of the true programming language I am using. So with PHP stuff I am working on I'll just do the HTML parts right in Zend Studio.
I used to use dreamweaver as well as frontpage at times to see things visual. But now jut seems to be an added step as I end up fixing up html from both those WYSIWYG editors.

Notepad. Dreamweaver is a crutch. I like to get down and dirty with the code, and when I don't know how to do something... I research it and learn it, instead of clicking a button and having a program do it for me. I also use Photoshop to lay things out and then slice it up. Then code it up.
Don't get me wrong... Dreamweaver is nice and all, and it can save you time I suppose, but it's just not my cup of tea anymore. Which is funny because at one point, maybe like 4 years ago, I actually preferred it over notepad... but now, I'm more like "bah.. who needs it?"
Oh, and anyone who says that people who use Dreamweaver can design better sites than those who don't is clearly delusional.

Agreed.
I live in code view in DW as I never use it for doing layouts, etc.
I guess there are other apps out there that do the code highlighting, but since I purchased DW (quite an older version now) I intend to get at least some money's worth out of it.
Also, just hitting the "put" button to upload changes from DW is handy as well.
I guess the code highlighting and handy FTP is about the only reason I use DW.

Why isn't no one suggesintg Microsoft Visual Studio!? I'm not enjoying this!
@ Julie: Does slicing a layout up save you time in photoshop, I still design without doing this should i learn to do it?

Because Microsoft Visual Studio is generally used to code C++/C#/VB/J# applications, is Microsoft Visual Web Developer even included in it?
