How to Build a Web Filter

I want to build a web filter that prevents young children from viewing innappropriate material online. I don't know where to start though. I have programming experience in VB, C, C++ and HTML.

Not sure if I can create a web application or a physical software.

Any help or direction would be appreciated.

First of all: what's a "physical software" ??

building a web filter:
- create a front page where you ask the user if he's over the required (by you) age "like 18".
- if he selects yes, then redirect to your site's main page otherwise keep refreshing the front page or redirect to an other section of your website, if you have that, of course.

Costin, I think he wants to build an actual web browser.

I'm sure there's a way to do this in PHP, but it seems like it would be pointless as the user would have to navigate to your URL in order for it to be effective. (If they can navigate to your URL they can also navigate to those naughty URLs too, right?). On the other hand, if you want to use VB, I would check out the Microsoft Internet Explorer Component and then just search through the text and if you find any bad words just stop it from Navigating to that page.

ooohh, if that's what he is after, then yes, the IE browser component is the way to go.
Also, he can block the browser to display certain websites...

Send a message via Yahoo to Taltos
start googling for "browser helper object". It will require some software that gets plugged into the browser. Good Luck.
