Install PHP Class

Hi, the server that I use doesn't support the class ZipArchive and on the site it says that you must re-compile PHP with the tag correct tag. However I cannot do this because I'm not on a dedicated server.

Is it possible to put the package (which is written in c) somewhere on the server and use it's classes without having to recompile.

I think I know the answer, and I'm guessing it's no, but I thought it was worth asking.

if you talk about PHP you should be able to setup http://pear.php.net/package/Archive_Zip it seems this package is unmaintained.

why don't you just use backticks to execute linux's gunzip program ?

I'm not writing the class, I downloaded a pre-written class that allows me to write to a excel spreadsheet. It uses the ZIP class. I might see if I can rewrite that section, although I'm not sure how well I'll go...

Can you paste some example code ? so I can understand what are the prereqs for the XLS generation stuff.

Options:
1) http://pear.php.net/package/Archive_Zip
2) gunzip
3) Instead of creating a XLS files you could create a simple CSV file and excel will be able to work with
4) Ask your sys admin/hosting support to install http://pecl.php.net/package/zip
