With some carts I've used you can switch to a secure cc processor before asking for any cc info. In other words, the cart gathers the products then as soon as the user "proceeds to checkout" they go strait to 2Checkout or whatever to enter their info.

I'm trying to get around buying a ssl cert since I already have a few 2Checkout accounts doing nothing. They have a cart I can use, but I really like the functions in OSCommerce.

Anyone know if this can be done without hacking the code up?

Do you use a particular credit card processing site currently, eg: Worldpay.com?

With most of them you can send the data across in specially named hidden fields then they'll pass it all back to you at the end via POST.

Alternatively, you could save the standard information to a database and just send a transaction ID number to the processing company. They then collect the credit card data and pass back the transaction ID so you know it's been paid.

Each one will have it's own methods however, but you don't need an SSL cert. and the credit card info is then secured on their network and not sitting on your server waiting to be hacked.

You have to modify the code to do this in osCommerce. Many loaded versions include this feature.

I'm looking at the auto-install version from Fantastico with Cpanel. Anyone know an online source that explains how to make the needed code changes? I can't write php freeform but I can make adjustments if explained well.
