Router problem.

I got a router about a month ago and I am having some sort of problem. Every so often, a window will pop up and it says "Dialing ISP" . All I do is hit cancel and continue on. It is, however quite annoying and I would like it to stop. Can you help? I do have a firewall provided by my ISP if that helps. Thanks.

if you go to control panel and network connections, is there a dial-up connection in there? If so, delete that. A similar thing used to happen to me until i did that.

It doesn't say Dial up. But there is a WAN Miniport (PPPOE) that says disconnected. The LAN is connected. Should i delete the WAN under Broadband?

I wouldn't delete it, Trap.

If I read your situation correctly, you probably used to connect your computer directly to the DSL modem, but now, you have a router that manages the internet connection for you? Your Windows settings may still be configured to use the "dial up" (PPPoE) connection when the router is "unavailable". If that is the case, you can tell Windows to NEVER use the PPPoE connection without actually deleting it, so that you can use it if your router ever blows up.

Control Panel -> Network And Internet Connections -> Internet Options -> Connections -> Choose "Never Dial A Connection"

You may also have to change a setting in your e-mail program, depending on what you use.
