System restore has saved me more than a few times in the past as well, I'm glasd to see you have fixed your problem though.

Ahh, you got something protecting your registry there dude.
Get that baby off line, go into safe mode and disable any Antivirus and other devices you have running and then try again.
See where that gets you.

How do you put Windows XP Home Edition in startup mode. I tried the method I know, but it wanted to start up the computer in C Drive Recovery Mode.

I take it you mean safe mode yes?
Windows XP Home Edition- Click Start.
- Select Turn off computer.
- Select Restart.
- During restart, hold down the F8 key on your keyboard until the Windows Startup menu appears.
- If your PC starts beeping then release the key for a few seconds before holding it down again.
- Select Safe Mode from the Startup menu, and press the Enter button on your keyboard.
- Windows should start in Safe Mode. If Windows doesn't restart in Safe Mode then please try again.

I did that, and it opens the "Please select a drive to boot" Menu. Should I just restart and try a new F key each time?

No, it should be F8.
Turn it off - switch on and try tapping F8 every second during bootup to see what happens.

I jsut tried to copy something, having forgotten it did not work in Firefox, but it worked. I remember that earlier while removign a program, I saw this advertisemnt something program as well. I knew it wasn't something I wanted, or had installed myself, so I removed it and i guess that solved the problem.
For future reference thouhg, how would I put my computer in safe mode if F8 does not work?
Alsom thank you all for the help, I really appreciate it,
MJ

Along with F8 you can sometimes use F5

Safe Mode starts up automatically if Windows does not boot on the previous attempt.

You could trick it, maybe... start the boot and then turn it off... don't know if that would send it to safe mode or not.

When I saw this thread title I thought I had started it because I ahd a copy and paste problem a few days ago in IE. It turns out it was just one domain name I couldn't copy and paste but I could copy and paste everything else. Totally weird...
