Spyware & adware Removal

My computer is highly infected. I would love something that is free, but if needed I would pay, becasue it is just terrible. I cant go 3 clicks with a few popups coming up and resizing my browser ect.

Anyone got some ideas?

I would start with AdAware, free and quite good. Just do a search of that and lavasoft which is the company that owns it and you should be set.

I have adaware, but when i use it it isnt able to edelete everything. im stumped and pissd off at my computer

Hello Whay browser are you using? I would bet it's IE correct? try using
Firefox it is a much stable browser them IE..

try to scan online with trend micro (the scan takes quite a while, but it's free and very powerful)

Nope I use FF, and the popups still happen when I try and use IE, they dont in opera, but I hate opera with a passion :K

I've been using System Mechanic + Adaware + Norton antivirus, never had problems, hope that helps

I swear by Spybot Search and Destroy and HijackThis. Although we build computers, repair them and kill spyware etc, we have installed more versions of Spybot Search & Destroy on computers than Windows OS.

My website has a Windows based FREE (FREE means FREE!) scan solution for Spyware and it seems to work very well.

For anti-virus then you need to try Dr Web Cureit! it is free to download and does not install. Has to be downloaded everytime you suspect you have a virus infection, owing to the fact that it is updated everytime a new addition is added to their wild list. Of course the illustrious mindymatter dredged up ever ancient spyware/adware post and SPAMMED us with the same URL in every one. I have to give them a token amount of credit in that it was done by hand and message was slightly different in each. But...still SPAM!

Hey mindymatter, if you bother to come back, it would be nice if you try posting assistance for questions that are a little more recent and people are likely to still be looking for answers.

You have all probably seen me mention this in other threads but one of the best free tools around for generallly cleaning out ALL forms of malware in one go is Ewido/AVG Anti Spyware. Granted, it may not remove 100% (what progam does?) but it will remove 99% of it. The remainder can be removed manually.

It has a fully working 30 day trial period.

Install it and update it to the latest definitions.

Do NOT use it yet.

Now boot to safe mode. Here’s a “how to” if you’re not sure ..

When in safe mode run a full system scan with AVGAS and let it fix what it wants to.

REMEMBER TO SAVE THE SCAN REPORT and also remember where you saved it.

Reboot to normal mode and use the computer as you would usually do.

[FOOTNOTE > this is a good program to use as an “on demand” scanner even after the trial period is over. Keep it updated and use it to scan your computer from time to time].

Save it to your Desktop.

Double-click on the file hijackthis_sfx.exe file and it will self-extract into its own folder ……

C:\Program Files\HijackThis

Go to this folder and run the hijackthis.exe file.

From the menu click on "Do a system scan and save a logfile".

Copy and paste both the AVG AS scan report and the HJT logfile to a new thread at this site. More specific removal instructions will follow for whatever it is that's causing the problem.

For prevention I use Autoruns - get a snapshot of your system compare it later disable intruders
For hijacked IE I use hijackthis
For all other adware I use spybot

for the last 4 years, No antivirus is running in my system never needed a firewall
Just have AVG or BitDefender (both free) for when I want to scan a download or a CD.
