Clicking on Ads
Does anyone else fear clicking on ads?
I don't know why, but I have a problem clicking on ads these days but I can't really explain why. My ideas are: so much bad luck clicking on ads linking to spam or I feel bad that I probably won't register or buy at the ad's site but just want to check it out.

I feel the same way. I never click on ads anymore; I've had way too many bad experiences. I can't even count how many mystery tool bars and searching devices have been involuntarily installed on my pc. Not to mention my browser has been spontaneously changed and tons and tons of spyware installed.

Uh, I've found just the opposite for me lately. If I'm interested in a product or service being offered, I'll check it out. I feel that I at least give the website owner the opportunity to 'sell' me their product/service. Kind of like walking into a car dealership...
Heather, I have never had any sort of spyware/toolbar/malware installed on my computer from simply clicking on an ad. What sort of ads are you clicking on? lol

Yea, adsense normally, just cause they are the most popular, but others too. YPN, whatever. If you have all this spyware, 1) Get AdAware and Spybot Search and Destroy 2) Clean computer up 3) Get firefox
Any other opinions on clicking ads?

If an ad shows something that I find interesting, then I have no problem clicking on it.

No Problem
Half of the cool stuff I find to write about and almost all my new ideas come out of clicking ads. Its one of the few things that takes me out of my box so I dont get stale with my posts.

Yes, I agree with Buildingbodies - what is there to fear about ads? They can open some wonderful new doors, and you're in charge of any actions you take from there.

Never click on smiley ads and you will be safe, though I very rarely click on an ad.
One day my sister used my PC for about an hour, after she left I had 2 toolbars installed in Internet Explorer. I asked her if she clicked any ad with smileys, she said, "yes two times, but couldn't find any smileys".
These ads are from FastClick and other similar CPM networks. I just hate them.
Adsense ads are safe. The only bad thing is they mostly land on pages having only adsense ads on all page "no content".
