Yuk I hate AMD. If your going to be using MS Windows it has been optimized for Intel
Just keep that in mind

Sorry but I have to say Intel, newer Amd's show promise but I personally have not used one in awhile. AMD's have power, but have always lacked compared to the intels, especially with heat protection although most modern day AMD's now have a basic heat protection function last I looked into it.

I bought 10 AMD HP 17" laptops for work. All users are happy campers. Some of them use it for AutoCAD.
Linux runs great on AMD too. 64 bit support has been fist offered by AMD, and Intel later admitted that their 64 bit processors are based on AMD architecture. Although their official documentation gives no credit do AMD, much to Linus Torvalds' disappointment.
Also, Linus Torvalds' pick for Linux is AMD. It would be pretty hard to dispute his expertise in regards to Linux.

I must admit the last AMD I had was a 1 gig tbird. I know performance versus cost they blow intel out of the water, my main problem was heat protection. I fried many old AMD's because of a failed cpu cooler, an Intel would just automatically slow down.
Anyone here have any experience real world with AMD's newest chips and the offered heat protection on them? If the heat protection works then I'd even have to change my vote to AMD, debating when I rebuild my network of desktops to go AMD as it is anyways. Heat protection though is my biggest worry, basically have a few bad experiences with a product it makes you very unwilling to give that product a chance again.

My old chugalug has an ancient AMD Athlon XP 1.4 GHz. But it still works great!
Dare I post which computer-in-a-box I started with?

So if I were to invest in a new AMD, which would you recommend? Pricepoint in mind.
