Is there really any difference between a Mac and a PC?
Mac is actually a PC, it only runs a different OS.

I use PCs.......I might use a MAC too if all the software I had was mac-compatible, but barely any of it is. It doesn't make sense to buy two copies of the same software for two different OS.

If gaming's important, then you'll need to stick with PCs. Gaming's simply not a priority on the Mac.

Yes if gaming is high on the list, not much point considering a Mac.......
Otherwise I would say get a Mac (biased)

I agree with everyone else. If you're going to be gaming get a PC. Mac's really aren't that great, in my opinion, unless you value style.

I hold Macintosh in a much higher regard than I do Windows. If graphics is important for you, go for the Mac.

It's not style; it's the freedom from malware, ActiveX objects, adware, spyware, attempts to use your ports for malicious activities, obscene serial numbers for your OS, and other stuff which hinders productivity.

Mac's are mostly designed for multimedia (music, video and graphics). PC's are mostly designed for business applicatons and gaming.
I use both. When I do video editing, create music and graphics I use my MAC. When I want to just surf the net, play games (mostly sports), programming, I use the PC.
They both can do what the other can do however, every recording and editing studio uses Macs. Well, almost every major studio uses them. Since you are mostly considering gaming and compiling the PC is the way to go. There isn't much of a difference for graphics unless you are using 100 MB photoshop/illustrator files. The bigger the files the longer they seem to take on a PC. The MAC can usually handle the large files with no problem.
Hope this helps.

Well, macs give you more protection, and from what I've heard, faster internet speeds, as well as better features overall.
Of course, PC's are better when it comes to price, and gaming. But, unlike the Mac, PC's tend to crash, and love picking out the worst viruses
I don't know much about AlienWare, but isn't this supposed to be the best choice for gaming? Seems like a PC is just the average overall. Decent gaming and speed.
A hint to all though. If you like gaming, NEVER BUY A VALO! THEY SUCK! I play WoW occasionally at times, and my stupid Valo likes to crash at least once within that day.

there is a little issue in this discussion:
PC is a processor architecture, not an operationg system. As such, a PC won't pick up viruses more than a Mac. Just install Linux on it, or the latest MAc OS for that matter. It runs on... PC.

Huh? You mean run windows on a mac? Ya, another good thing about Macs
Or were you saying something else, because I didn't understand that too well. BTW, does OS stand for Operating System?

*And* the other way around. You can run Windows on a Mac if, for some reason, you really want to. Have been able to do it for more than a decade.
