Wireless Router Problem

Everytime I upload webpages using FTP my internet connection goes off and I have to re-boot my router

This has only happened since I bought a D-Link wireless adsl router a few weeks ago so I could use my laptop and PC to go online.

Does anybody know why this happens?

Thanks in advance

Have you called D-Link or looked through their help files? Do you lose internet before you can FTP or after?

Does it work perfectly fine on everything else and only does it when connecting via ftp?

If so, it seems like a firewall/router setting.

Have you tried disabling the firewall and trying again? - Obviously, only disable it for a few moments, just to test as I wouldn't recommend anyone work with firewall disabled.

Other than that, I guess D Link have a support forum where I am sure they have come across this before

There isn't anything in D-Link routers that should cause this type of issue. By default all D-Links allow outbound traffic with no exceptions, but with large transfers there may be an MTU value issue on some routers.

I agree! Make sure the MTU is set to 1492

I was losing my connection after I FTP'd but I couldn't find a solution anywhere I looked.

Thanks for the suggestion to change the MTU setting to 1492. I have chnaged this setting on the router and I never lost my connection first time I tried it. It was previously 1432 so perhaps thats what caused the issue? I will let you know if it goes wrong again

Cheers

Its gone wrong again Whenever I upload webpages via FTP my internet connection switches off and I have to reboot the router. ADSL light goes out as does the status light but all others stay on.

I changed the MTU setting which doesn't seem to have done the trick. Any further suggestions beause D-Link support site is hopeless?

Thanks.

Try another FTP program just to see if the same thing happens. Even better, try the command line ftp if you're able to.
