The only way to get windows really secure is to hire a snipper to watch 'em for you.

avalonstudios is liked by many
I tend to agree, they say they've made internal changes to ensure their software is more secure from now on... but I truly don't believe it will stop most from finding ways into Vista.

I have heard that they are waiting awhile longer to release Vista to the general public. I am sure that when it is finally released it will be a huge step up from XP (and way better then Tiger ). Like they said any beta will have bugs; thats what beta release is for.

I agree but also one must consider that XP was released in 2002 or around that time if memory serves anway it's been 4 years since a MS Windows release so I sure a hell hope it's a step up.

I heard it was a 15Gig install that's ludacris. I's not expecting much more than a pretty interface in the form of advancements.

Then again the only thing I've ever liked about new MS Windows releases is the fact that they always make things look more pretty

The problem with Window is, that every computer has a different configuration of hardware, and new ones are coming out all the time. the hardware distrubuters are making new hardware which is compatible with the OS, but not necceserally safe. and therefore when a user installs it, it is then prone to attack from virus's which target that hardware or the software it uses etc... so it's not actually Microsofts fault that they are so many problems. it's not really the OS it's more the hardware standard.

Thats why mac's are so secure. because all interal hardware is Apple hardware. and if it isn't then thats your fault if you get a virus, but no one targets mac's anyway cos they are too good

No one targets Mac's because it's so much easier to hit 97% of the population and actually get into someone's computer.

I don't think it has anything to do with hardware. More so everything to do with being industry standard and also the fact that they give way to much power to ASP and IE.

Yep and because no one used to use MAC's no one wrote virii for a MAC.

Now though they ported to the Mach Kernel (BSD) so they are at risk of the few linux/unix/bsd virii that are out there.

why is my mac not secure? and don't give me that 97% of the population rubbish, someone would have created a virus or something that hacks into it.

gaz545,

at the risk of sounding patronizing... you do need to do more research.
However, before your research is complete make sure you stay safe and install an anti-virus on your Mac. Some nice selection can be found here.

One of the many bad things things that can happen to a computer enthusiast is a false sense of security.

Security, dear gaz545, is not a product, it is a process.

97% was a number I made up. But it is a known fact that more people own PCs than Macs.

Think about it. If you want to mass target a lot of people, who are you going to go after? Sure, you might have groups that you want to target which would result in going after a Mac. But for the computer owning population in general you go after PCs.
