two email accounts for one email address; to recieve tagged spam

hi,

not sure if this question belongs here, and I am pretty much a noob.

our email is hosted by avanet and spamassasin and spam box are enabled at the domain level. The problem is NONE of the spam can be received into our pop 3 Outlook email client unless the email account’s User Name has “/spam” added to the end of it (under Logon Information in email accounts settings). in that case ONLY spam is received from their server and not regular email.

So my question is will this work: I have two email accounts for my one email address; the second account has /spam added to the User Name. so my default email gets all the non spam and the second account gets the spam.

this seems to be working and a rule in outlook moves tagged spam to a junk folder.

i guess what really confuses me is why avanet could not suggest this in our week long trading of emails to resolve how and why I could get both spam and non spam received into my pop 3 account.

I have spamassasin running on my server and I just make an outlook mail rule that says if "Spam detection software, running on the system" is in the body of the email then to move it to the spam folder.

this one rule works for all my email accounts coming into my inbox.
then for each of my accounts I have them highlight in a different color, so I can keep up with them better.

my question is do i need to have two email accounts for my one email address? according to avahost i have to add /spam to my User Name under Logon Information to receive spam, but this only receives email tagged as spam. so i have a second email account without this added and this receives non spam. it seems to work: i get spam from one account and non spam from the other

if it's working and that's what they told you to do, then I guess it's right.

they didn't tell me to, in fact the support is email only and pretty bad. all they told me is adding /spam only allows spam in so i came up with the idea to have the same email address with a different account adding this.

it does seem to work i was just wondering if having two outlook accounts for the same email address like i am doing is something others have done and if it may cause some problems.
