Broadband. Uk.

Ok so in 7 days I move to the UK and into my house for college again.
I need broadband.
Im sharing my house with 3 people. So what good broadband package can I get for about £20 a month or less? I want wireless.
Shoot.

what part of the UK, this is really improtant, as you could get 24mbps internet connection for only £24 pm, the wirless stuff is down to you, you would need a router and possibly a base station if you want to cover a large space, if you can afford it, just wire the whole place, you will get a faster speeds internaly.

if your going wireless, protect the damn thing, there are so many rookies going down to PC world and buying a crap ass router they think is a good deal but is rubbish, and then set it up, and leave it open, i could park my car infront of your gaff, and then use your internet and you wouldn't even know. Edit: oh and on a side note, if your using windows, i could probably view your documents.. and easily install a key logger if i wanted... so seriously you gotta look out, there are people out there who do this sortta stuff.

anyway if you don't have wireless networking built into your computer or laptop w/e get all belkin stuff, belkin router (base station) and then belking network cards for PC / Laptop, and you get 125mbps network connection instead of the standard 52mbps...

Aye sure im on a wireless connection at the moment with this laptop.
Part of UK - the town of St Andrews.
There are a lot of wireless connections around my flat because I live smackbang centre of the town, so normally would just connect to some shop with no security and use their connection. But getting our own connection this year.
Just looking for the best particular companies to go for. NTL any good? BT broadband? Carphone warehouse? Ive seen free wireless routers with some packages in the past, any good ones at the moment? Also how long does it take to get a broadband connection set up? Cause theres nothing at all in the house at the moment. Do you have to get some sort of broadband socket installed in the wall? I dunno what I need. All we have are normal telephone sockets. That would need a ADSL connection yeah? Don't think we can get cable.

The thing is don't get BT, they are using 'technology' from the 50's and it takes them 3 weeks to find the wire to your house to switch your broadband, or create it....

these free router things are just a gimic in my mind to get you in. don't go for the free ones, they are free for a reason, they suck... the one at the carphone warehouse is backed logged by 18months...

The thing with BE (the company that does 24mbps) is that you have to have a BT, as many of these companies as for, as they are just re-selling, so it might take a while to set up.. and i can only direct you to there page to see if they offer a sevice to you, as you need to fill in there details, shope around, and go to as many service providers as possible, as for a contract to read, and if you don't agree with it, either walk away, or change it and send it back to them (hehe thats what my dad does all the time)

Link to service request...

Know if this is any good? Looked up what broadband packages are available in the town, and the university webpage says "The following combination is known to work satisfactorily and is supported by IT Services:"

* ISP: Demon
* Broadband Package: Home Office
* ADSL router: Linksys/Cisco
* VPN client: Cisco VPN client v4.6/4.7
* Phone line: approved by BT as appropriate for broadband at the speeds guaranteed by your ISP

Just don't let them treat you for a mug, alot of these company will see that you are students and give you a rough ride, but don't take it, learn your rights and read them out to them if they don't supply the goods..

I'm with plus.net myself and have been with them for a few years.

I'm happy with the service provided, plus the helpdesk is in the UK and not another country so they understand what you are saying - Definate bonus

freedom2surf are very good. http://www.freedom2surf.net/

They also did monthly plans so no need for a yearly contract, good for students! You may need to enquire about this though, it is no longer on their website that I could see
