Hot Spot opinion?

I need a new toy.
Read some reviews, would like to see if anybody here used this and has something to say based on their experience of the product, or the previous model (DSA-3100)

Thanks.

Nah, no neighborhood LAN parties.

I'm taking care of a small library in an equally small municipality where high speed is sparse. This thing would provide real value to the patrons who have their own laptops, as the library has only 7 public computers.

$700 is the list price. I can get it for $654.63 CDN.

Huh, pretty neat although I'm not familiar with that specific product. We run a DLink wireless router at my place of employeement, but nothing on that scale. For the record, we've not had any issues with teh DLink.

I also use D-Link wireless access points, about a dozen, at that libray and at the town hall, but due to security I cannot allow outside users to connect to the same access points that are used by employees to access some of the internal stuff.

Never had a problem with D-Link, plus I am biased towards D-Link as they are a Canadian company.

I suffer from a dilemna that this product would solve, but $700 is too expensive to solve it.

I have a basement apartment for rent. I would love to be able to include high speed internet access as part of the rent. However, my own home network is connected to some of my client's corporate networks via VPN so I can do remote support in my underwear.

For obvious reasons, I can't allow a total stranger access to those networks.
$700 is pretty steep, though, to solve that problem. So, my tenants are on their own for now.

Zap: wouldn't it pay for itself in a few months? I mean you could up your rent a little and after it was paid for, it would just be pure profit on the rent increase.

Nah. High speed access can be had for $50/month here and that's the highest speed possible.
The local ISPs also have lower speed packages (5, 3, 1.5 MBit) for cheaper.
It would be a couple of years before that thing paid for itself.

Some options you may want to consider are:
DSA-3100 - can be had for about $550 CDN (need to hurry coz it's discontinued)
or this.
I was considering the latter but I don;t have enough time but enough complexity in my networks, and that would have to be reworked.

As for what you responded to JP, sure, they can get cheaper service but still, adding a line about "free" inernet access in your classifieds might be a good thing from a business perspective. All depends on how many tennats you have.
