Would you be migrating to Vista?
Though technically I feel XP is best and more than enough for my needs, I am strongly tempted to have Vista running on my PC when its available to consumers
Would you be upgrading your OS to Vista?

I usually wait at least a year to upgrade. Win2000 and WinXP took about that long to reach maximum stability. And, after a year, most, if not all, of the major bugs get obliterated with service packs. Plus, with the hive of problems Microsoft has had with Vista, and we only know about the publicized ones, I may wait two years. No need to rush, after all plenty of Win2000 machines still litter the world's networks. They work fine. And always remember: Don't believe the hype.

I'll probably end up with Vista in a few months. I need a new machine soon and I'm sure it will come with Vista installed. Otherwise I would wait a little while longer than that normally.

Probably not, or maybe as a dual boot to try first. The problem is that I think Vista is geared at the technically challenged, with all the widgets and what not. Although, I have yet to use it myself...so just speculating.

Every MS OS after DOS was geared at the technically challenged IMO. Cool toys get buried deeper and deeper in the OS all the time. Ahhh, for the good old days of DOS... *not sure*

Nope. And I hope to not need to manage any systems that are running it for at least a year or two, for the same reasons noted by ewomack.
How about this question, for those who are planning to use Vista: Which version will you be using? Vista, Vista Business or Vista Enterprise? Each is significantly different from the others in terms of what they offer and their price points. If you've been getting by with XP Pro, you may need to up your ante a bit to get the features you need ...

I'll stick with XPpro for another couple of years, untill I need new machines I won't be bothered with Vista, XPpro does all I need without headaches and I fail to see why I should change.

I upgraded to Linux (specifically VectorLinux) 2 years ago, and haven't had an MS-based OS on my machines since.
Vista is tempting just to see what it's got going on, but as long as we're interacting with computers via a keyboard and mouse, I don't know how much beyond Win2000/XP an operating system can do for the technically-inclined. For those disinclined, the OS options seem to be bundling more fluff toys/tools to get jobs done without the know-how. There's benefit to that for sure...but I won't be "upgrading".

Only if they re-introduce 'gorillas.bas' which they did away with after Win NT.
Theis was a fundamental part to MS OS's.

I'll probably stay with XP. It does what I need it to, and I see no reason to change just because there's something new.

Evaluating Vista
Hi Guys yeah ,Vist ,hmmm welll ,I'm now using the full evaluation copy from MS, 32,& 64 bit DVD disc able to run on 10 PCs running as a dual boot above XP Pro.
Its prety, its fast loading ,it has fancy desk top items, it has window media center features built in.
HHHHMMMMM !!!!!
.....Issuessss.....
Internet explorer 7 has some problems allowing downloads of software updates and drivers.
I found the networking setup was very difficult to work out at first,it took ages to get it connected to 3 PCs.
Other features are not too bad ,it takes some time to find your way around ,just like it did with XP i supose ,but this seems to me to be a litle un user friendly.
Microsoft allways seem to find many ways to confuse people with changing easy thing to be dificult, thats there way of making it different.
I would sujest to most people like they said above maybe wait a bit until all the buggs have been rectified, wow like theres still some in XP now ,so who knows before Vista is perfected.
There are other NEW OS out there to try.
I my self would not pay the full asking price at the moment for VISTA witch I dont know any how.\
I have these copys until June so I will make the most of it ,sending in bugg reports day by day.
I love when I have restart my PC and flick the switch back to XP.

I used it till Today because I got a Geforce 8800GTS which I don't have the drivers (I gotta talk to my NVIDIA rep to get them before January) but I enjoyed it during the time that I did use it (which I used it literally for everything)

Yes Richi, 512 is ok minimum requirements.
It worked fine on my other AMD Athlon 3000+ with 512 megs of Ram.
Now I'm running it on AMD am2 64 4600 with 1.24 megs of ram .runs a lot faster now.
