Can get any websites on IE ! ?
Hi everyone,
Can anyone please help? I can't access any websites on IE 7. I can with other browsers. My computer and my husbands computer are networked with a router and he has no problem accessing IE. I think he has IE 6 on his computer. My computer has been working just fine. I was able to access everything, then tonight everything I try to get to in IE I get the error msg Internet Explorer Cannot display the webpage. I've tried typing in the sites, hitting the address bar ones, and bookmarks, nothing works.
First I checked to make sure our cable box and router were okay, they seemed fine, so I asked my husband if he could get into websites and he had no problems at all. I tried again, still nothing, it's been a few hours now. So I tried a few different browsers and they are getting into all the sites just fine.
I rebooted as well and that hasn't helped either. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Linda

I'd say uninstall and reinstall IE from the microsoft website. Sometime software (especially that of Microsoft) can develop strange bugs.

See of something has been changed by IE through Tools-Internet Option-Connection.
Then try to disable firewall (if you use it).Maybe you per mistake set rule to block IE.
Finally you can always back to time when there were not problem using System Restore.

Thanks for all the answers,
I checked the firewall first and for some reason IE was blocked. I didn't touch the settings so I don't know how it got changed. It's working now !
Then again I do have a 7 yr old and a 2 1/2 yr old who I always find playing with things on my computer.
Thank you much,
Linda

LOL ! Now that you mention it, I do remember that thread ! I got EZ Firewall and on my computer I set up the lock, no activity for 5 mins and the screen locks and you have to type in a password to access anything.
The kiddos must have jumped on when I went to do something and were doing things before the lock kicked in.
For awhile there the little one 2 1/2 yr old was killing me with touching everything, then I put the lock thingy on and she got mad, when nothing would work, she'd shut the computer right off !! Talk about NOT HAPPY, I was wondering which was worse, her touching it or shutting it down because it wouldn't work for her !!
Too funny, thanks again.

Maybe this is the world's way of telling you that you should use FireFox instead?

This actually occurs more commonly with non-IE browsers. Not because of anything related to the browser but because it is more common to be installing a different browser and people don't click the right magic button when their firewall software warns them that X is trying to access the internet. Damned spammers and spyware and all the other crap has created a situation where you have to tell your computer 15 times that, yes, I know what I am doing and I really would like to let this program access the internet.
