All I can say is that if MS put as much effort into keeping their products secure and up-to-date as the effort they put into taking over the world, they could have made a kick-ass browser by now, but i fear they are only interested in improving their products when it suits their current business plans, money making plots, and monopoly mastery.

fit's in my buffer nicely but with the company resources they have they could do a lot better. IMHO.

I agree they do some great jobs, and have some geat ideas for powerful features. The do contribute to the advancement of technology I know. But they (not their emplyees) are bastards!

I didn't like Mozilla initially so I stayed with IE but now it has become so annoying that it was my only option

Can you edit skins in IE?

Do you think IE is secure?

Do you think you can't break your comp by using IE?

Mozilla is a world-class open source browser that is designed from the ground up to support open internet standards across a variety of platforms including Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, OS/2, Solaris, and many more. Does M$ do this?

Mozilla also provides a sophisticated platform for developing web and intranet applications using cutting edge technologies such as XML, SOAP and XSLT. Does IE do this?

Mozilla offer free support. M$ charges you $255 U.S. just to open a support channel.

Mozilla offers tabbed browsing. DOes IE?

Mozilla is also a web development platform with advanced tools like the DOM Inspector, the JavaScript Debugger. Does IE?

In addition to supporting the Web standards and common proprietary plug-ins, Mozilla has great support for the millions of non-standard Web pages. Mozilla's "quirks" mode and "almost standards" mode ensure that even buggy Web pages display quickly and correctly. DOes IE do this?

The answer to all of the above question is a big NO here is why:

Problem with all m$ products is that they all depend on core compionents. so if there is one driver that has been corrupt it crashes (classic M$). This doesn't happen in Mozilla. Furthermore unlike M$ this coding is sound, open sources and editable. Something that M$ will never have because they fear competition so much.

Do you think IE is secure?
I did a post about this subject (now in the forum archives). Gives you a website to test the security of your browser. Mozilla comes up with no security holes, while IE currently has two medium risk holes and that's if you've still updated your windows.

These holes take advantage of javascript bugs in the IE code to allow java applets on web sites to contain malicious code. Currently there is a trojan going around on a particular java applet banner ad (I got caught out with this while using IE) and it sits in your temporary internet files. Not even Norton have a proper fix for this yet, although I haven't checked their site for a couple of weeks.

Archived forum thread can be seen here.

I like IE, I have Mozilla because it is pretty universal when it comes to testing out a web page for different browsers.

Because different people think differently.

Since browsers are a software which you cannot make money over, there are only certain players that participate. This could account for the fact that there are not many more browsers out there.

Got IE6 and Firebird installed. Don't use the Firebird so much. PRobably will in future, though - especially once the release is stabilised.

Personally, I much preferred IE 5 to IE 6 - much more stable. Shame you can't downgrade IE.
