Dealing with spammers

I cannot stand it when some guy registers on my forum and posts about some useless garbage like male enhancement drugs on my webmaster/webhosting forum. My instinct is to ban them immediatly, but I always wish I could do more. What is your favorite/most intersting response to spammers if any. Bannning them and deleting their thread doesn't seem like its enough considering they might be behind a proxy, or have access to a different computer with a different IP and can do it again, or the fact that they are just going to go do it on another forum.

Its just one of the problems that constantly plague the net. There is no easy solution. Its the same way with emails... if you have a website with an email address on it, you will get spammed. I only get 200 a day so I guess that isnt so bad

well, that's a hard problem especially if you own a forum.. I guess the only thing to minimize them is to always check your today's posting and delete the account/thread of that spammer.

Indeed, but we don't delete posts down here, we ban the spammers.

Not only on forums unfortunately, I had a sneaky guy who put a link porn in html on my search field. What the guy doen't know it is recording the IP too lol
