Unhappy Windows Vista and Photoshop Incompatibility

I have just tried to install Photoshop 5.0 on the new Vista OS and it says it lacks the permissions to edit the file

Update.cer

and subsequently discontinues the installation. I have tried the Adobe patch on the Adobe website but it gives another error.

What can I do?

Thanks!!!

Photoshop v.5 may simply be too old to accept the Vista patch. I seem to recall (although I can't find it, now) that Adobe had made an announcement that even the newest versions of Photoshop aren't ready for Vista yet ... but they're working on it. You may want to consider The GIMP. Although there will be a little learning curve, and your plugins may not install in it, it's really a pretty robust, free Photoshop replacement.

Wow .. Photoshop 5. I dont think it is compatible indeed, I suggest you go back to XP, find a solution (or confirmation of the incompatibility) there, and then reconsider Vista.

Vista is great really.. but still too untrustable.
