Like with a pair of needle nose pliers?

Seriously though, it might just be a good excuse to format the drive and reinstall windows. Backup what you can. Documents are the first priority. Programs can be downloaded again, which is probably a good thing anyway.

Like Waffles said, you would be better off just backing up all your necessary files and re-installing your OS.

Or, you can log in "Safe Mode" and try to delete those files
If you can delete them, there's no need to reinstall OS anymore...

IF you have another PC, take the hdd out of this one, set the jumpers to slave and put it in the secondary system.

Once your other pc has booted up, get it to run a thorough AV check on the hdd you just put in and this will remove any unnecessary virus files as they are not being held onto by your system.

mybluehair .... if you don't want to reformat yet, and nothing else works for you, try this.

Make sure you have exposed all Hidden Files & Folders.

To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:

1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
2. Double-click on the My Computer icon.
3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
4. After the new window appears select the View tab.
5. Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
6. Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
8. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
9. Press the Apply button and then the OK button and close My Computer.

***********************

download a self-extracting copy of HijackThis from here …….

http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/hijackthis_sfx.exe

Save it to your Desktop.

Double-click on the file hijackthis_sfx.exe file and it will self-extract into its own folder ……

C:\Program Files\HijackThis

Go to this folder and run the hijackthis.exe file.

From the menu click on "Do a system scan and save a logfile".

Copy and paste both the AVG AS scan report and the HJT logfile to this thread. More specific removal instructions will follow for any malware revealed.

(If those stubborn folders don't go after this there are other things we can try.)

Oops ... I forgot ... I also recommend you use this scanner as well .....

If you are on Windows 2000 or XP download Ewido/AVG Anti Spyware from here ….

http://www.ewido.net/en/

It has a fully working 30 day trial period.

Install it and update it to the latest definitions.

Do NOT use it yet.

Now boot to safe mode. Here’s a “how to” if you’re not sure ..

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...01052409420406

When in safe mode run a full system scan with AVGAS and let it fix what it wants to.

REMEMBER TO SAVE THE SCAN REPORT and also remember where you saved it.**

Reboot to normal mode and use the computer as you would usually do.

[FOOTNOTE > this is a good program to use as an “on demand” scanner even after the trial period is over. Keep it updated and use it to scan your computer from time to time].

**This is the "AVG AS scan report" I referred to in my post above.

I would suggest getting hijack this and posting a log. That program also has a 'delete on startup' option for those particular files that just wont let you take them out if they've been registered and are active.

Also, post the file names of the particular files you're trying to delete. Or do research on them to make sure they are the problem. There's usually a malicious software removal app out there for most of the nastier stuff that a standard av wont get rid of.

Like I just suggested

However, be careful before you go fixing things or using the delete on startup options.HJT can be a powerful tool and can easily wreck your computer unless used correctly. That's why I recommend you run the scans, as indicated, and post the logs here for more advice.

I would reformat. After that many issues, save offline what you can and get a clean install. Avoid IE, Firefox is better and you are less likely to get pop up issues...oh, and stay off of porn sites..

As it's been so long since the original post I think we can all assume mybluehair no longer has the problem.
