Has New Orleans become a non-Internet Prospect land?

I was on a conference call a couple days ago. The subject came up about using Craig's List to advertise internet/network marketing business. One person suggested that she wouldn't advertise in New Orleans, considering the Rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina. This shocked me, as I live about a mile or so outside of New Orleans, La., USA.

Am I the only one that sees the opportunity for the internet here? What is your perception about New Orleans and Internet Business?

Thanks,
Hubert

I was just reading an article this past week (I think it was in the Wall Street Journal, I can't seem to find it) that discussed this very subject. According to the article New Orleans has become a top destination in the south for tech/internet startups. There were many reasons why - but the most important being cheap rent and access to cheap money - government loans for rebuilding, etc.

Our rents/prices on housing used to be very low, but since the Katrina rents have doubled and then some. But you are coffect about government money, as well as private investor money, is coming, athough not as quickly as people would like to see, into the area. We have the possibility of catching up with the rest of the Hi Tech, as well as Civilized world. We will just have to see if the money makes it into the hands of those that will make the changes. It is a great opportunity New Orleans hasn't seen in the past.
