I'm a 37.
Yes, Cricket, I think that the internet does affect the quality of our family and social lives. I think it is too easy to be drawn into the net and hard to turn it off. Whether it's one more post, one more email, one more order, whatever. (I'm a factoid addict - ask a question - go run and get the answer!)
When we can completely fill our head with busyness we don't have anything left over for our spouses, our children, or our friends. Not to mention time we should be contemplating the mysteries of life.
I'm always amazed at so many of the things that seem to create distance between folks. I've seen people out to dinner together where half of them are texting someone instead of speaking to the person next to them. Shoot, perhaps they are texting each other - who knows.
I think internet friends are alway going to be more "attractive" than inconvenient people who have bad hair and smelly days.
I have significantly reduced my level of responsiveness to email and voice mail. From OCD to just every couple of hours. It's amazing how much more time I spend with my family - and how much more I get done in the day - though I must say I always hate doing the dishes.
I guess whether it's work, play, sports, service, everything can become an addiction. Just seems the internet is so much more addictive due to its easy accessibility.
Now, I've been here in the forum for 45 minutes - I'd better get to work ;-)
Regards,
