I hate Vista
I just got this computer about 2 weeks ago and I already hate Vista with such a passion that I can hardly describe it. Hardly any of my software works correctly.
Is it possible to switch to XP on a computer that cam with Vista preloaded? How?

Hate is such a strong word. I just got a laptop a few weeks ago with Vista on it. I am not particularly fond of it.

I had to escalate to hate. None of my business software works with it. It's flashy and all but why develop an OS that negates lots of industry software?
Grrr. I'm on hold with MS support right now trying to get XP on and Vista off.

The best way to accomplish this is through the place you bought the computer.
Microsoft will probably tell you the same after putting you on hold for an hour.

It's just been settled. I purchased an HP. Swore I wouldn't...then did anyway. You CAN'T install backwards on a HP pre-installed with Vista. A guy at Officemax says he's done it but it takes a long time and you have to find new drivers for all drives because Vista is compatible with NOTHING. NOTHING! Even programs like Acrobat Professional 8 that have finally tweaked themselves to be Vista "compatible" have support forums full of people screaming about issues.
My options:
1) Spend $1,500 that I don't have on software upgrades I didn't need before I purchased this dog in hopes that it'll work.
2) Go back to my old computer and consider my recent purchase a really shiny black boat anchor.
Maybe it's time to consider a Mac.

I finally got in touch with a friend who has the brains to do the Vista to XP conversion. He's had to do it at least a dozen times since Vista came out because of people running into the same type of issues.

switch to linux its 10x better than xp and vista, if you want one similar to windows go with reactOS or if you want a complete linux distro use Kubuntu .

I don't like Vista and I read somewhere it was impossible to switch from OS Vista (HD formatted) to OS XP (after a previous Vista install) on the same HD, because there is a specific formatting or something on Vista. Basically you need a new HD if you want to go back with XP.

My friend that's going to do the switch for me has done it a few times before successfully. I don't pretend to understand everything he does about computers, but he explained it as being about a four hour process of reformatting, replacing all drivers, something that has to be done to the modem...ect...ect. Whatever it takes it's worth getting rid of that useless OS.

What software is giving you the hassles? Are other users of this software experiencing the same issues?
I'm only asking because I'm looking at getting Vista Ultimate 64 and I do have my own concerns.

Quark & Acrobat Pro, & Quickbooks are the main ones. I'm getting odd errors with Dreamweaver that I never got before. I've read on the forums where people are having issues with other things but these are the ones that effect me most.

And swapping compatability didn't work for you? I've also read about the desktop composition and aero having issues with appz that dont support this Vista feature. Have you switched those off to see if there's any change?

I have Windows Vista Ultimate, and, unfortunately, it was a major waste of money. It constantly annoys me with that "Cancel or Allow" crap, and half of the stuff I try to use doesn't work properly (if at all). The only advantage that it has over XP is that it looks a lot nicer... and they stole that look from OS X!
Microsoft really dropped the ball on this one, in my opinion.

ShadowMarketer try this: UAC TWeaker
UAC is the point here. With it enabled and in the early stages of the Vista experience, Vista will prompt the user about granting access control for applications and the like. Once you've settled and configured your system over time, these prompts will dissipate. It's part of the Vista security feature *shrug* but if you didn't have security issues before, try switching it off natively.

Vista looks cool as hell... but that's it.
It's annoying and a bloody pain in my ass.
It has to have permission to do everything, it's file structure is garbage, you can't play a lot of your old games or run old programs, and it does nothing that you couldn't do with XP. Plus, it requires higher system specs to run but they're not putting out computers with higher specs to compensate. What the hell?

Well XP will never have Dx10 and accept more than 3.5gb of ram so that's a big difference for Vista.
Plus XP is gona be gone, probably, in 2008/9.
64 bit is way of the future.
16 and 32 bit installers are just gona bite the dust. Software companies can support their older wares if they want (with updates) but most of them are moving towards 64 bit / multi-threaded environments anyways.
