Vista Good? Dx10 is.

So I'm doing some 'next build' shopping and moving towards sli. With the 8800's out now and supporting dx10, should I just go for Vista now?

Will my regular XP type software still work on Vista? ie: photoshop 7 and the like.

I could definitely do with more ram and I like the fact that Vista suports huge rammage, I'm just not a fan of the whole Aero or stylized feel. Can any Vista owners confirm it's ability to scale back and look striped down like 2000?

Any pros and cons you Vista owners (ex XP pro owners) would like to share with me is apreciated.

Well from what I've been reading, allot of problems people are having with Vista and running older appz from Xp is compatability, desktop composition and aero. With the compatability swap in Vista, it seems it deals with allot of issues. If it works in Xp and doesnt work right in Vista switch the .exe it to XP compatability and all is well. Turn off Aero and all is well. turn off desktop compostion and all is well.

I'm swinging more and more towards Vista.

I would prefer windows XP, because Windows Vista is too new and i heard of many problems about that: Vista looks good but in tv they said you should wait some years, because then all problems will be fixed.

Like any of the windows releases they have been absolutely plagued with issues until the first and sometimes even 2nd service pack. there is a "hack" of sorts that will allow you to run dx10 through windows xp but that will be between you and the search engines to uncover that information. All in all I am going to continue with XP until the rants and raves about compatibility issues softens to a whisper
