American journal of psychiatry suggested Internet addiction classed as mental disorder !!!!

Here is one of the symptom.

Withdrawal and an associated sense of anger or depression when users cannot reach a computer, the constant need for better equipment and the feeling of social isolation and fatigue are all signs of technology-related mental disorders.

But some of the symtoms mentioned in American journal of psychiatry as follows:

1) excessive use, often associated with a loss of sense of time or a neglect of basic drives,

2) withdrawal, including feelings of anger, tension, and/or depression when the computer is inaccessible,

3) tolerance, including the need for better computer equipment, more software, or more hours of use, and

4) negative repercussions, including arguments, lying, poor achievement, social isolation, and fatigue

I think these are serious consequences and it shares some features of alcohol, or drugs dependence symptoms.

Yeah. The solution is as you said simple. But it is a bit hard if you become addicted to the internet.

This has been talked about for like the last 5 or so years. So instead of random companies saying its a mental disorder maybe they should try to create cures.

It is not random company. It was mentioned on "American journal of psychiatry" which is reputable journal in psychiatry.

Current version of mental disorder classification is DSM 4 and now they are talking about to include internet addiction as mental disorder in DSM 5.
