Need Cable Modem help!!
Ok, I have an RCA cable modem that came with my roadrunner service. My main browser is firefox. My problem is that my connection seems to get "stuck" all the time?? For example, sometimes it gets stuck on trying to connect to a site, other times everything will be loading ok and fast and then all of a sudden it gets stuck again. What I dont understand is that when I do all the bandwidth tests, I get very decent numbers. Downloading files is no problem either, streaming video no problem either. My speed tests are around 6000 kbps. Any ideas what's going on??

Call cable company. There is setting for singal power. Sometime that setting go to minus db which may cause slow or break your connection.
Best think is call your cable company. I have same problem before and i did the same thing.
Could possible some other issue.

Nope, pretty much at random times and thats what makes it more confusing. Since I use Firefox, I do notice that it happens when I am connecting to a website that uses those ad cookie sites, like doubleclick, etc..... Thats when I notice that the connection hangs a bit then finally load the actual website I am trying to view

Have you cleaned up your browsing at all? Spyware check? Temp files and so on. If it's hanging on ads, it could be you've got large amounts of data stored so it's taking as long as it takes to parse it.
Get:
Spybot S&D
Spyware Blaster
EasyCleaner
If Immunizing and cleaning out your temps and adware doesnt work, call the cable company. It could be you just have a noisy line.

You know, I noticed the same behaviour with my firefox as well. And it's the same websites. If I copy the URL into IE, IE loads quickly. I'm going to blame firefox for this or the way these pages are implemented with these doubleclick redirects.

I clean my system pretty much every day. It always comes up clean with all my scan software. I did notice however, in my firewall allowed programs, there are a bunch of GLB.tmp files that have internet access permited. Is that normal? And one of my AV software (Avira antivir) found something called cc/agent.cz? none of my other AV software has ever found that. Would that have something to do with it?

Are you asking me that or telling me? Either way it's your call. From what I've read (and I'm by no means an expert on those types of files) They've all been bad. Post your reference.

Now that I think of it, Ive noticed those files as being permitted in my norton firewall for years and haven't had nothing of significance happen to my PC. Im assuming that with all the AV software that I have, those have long been gone, just their entry stayed in the Norton Firewall list.

If you want to help isolate the issue, connect another computer to your network. If the other computer exhibits the same behaviour, it is likely your connection. If it does not, it is likely your machine.

The latency can easily be intermittent.
You've defaulted to blaming the network for the latency. Why not rule out your machine so you could be a bit more certain that it's the network. Once you've ruled out your machine: - Check your cables. One of them might be bad.
- Reset your cable modem. This is usually done by disconnecting it from the power source for 30-45 secods. Verify the procedure with your provider.
If you are still seeing periods of unexplained latency, contact your provider and have them come out to test or replace the modem.
Good luck!

thanks for the tips. I think it is probably because the main source is split 3 ways, between 2 digital cable tv's and then 1 for my internet connection. Its probably that. I dont use any cable amplifiers of any kind, but do use high quality monster cables and splitters. Would a broadband amplifier help?

Do you perhaps have a Netgear router? I do and it seems to get amnesia periodically and I have to cycle the power.
