Owned by News Corporation and launched in 2003, the creators of MySpace didn’t face much infrastructural troubles during its launch and came out with the first version within 10 days. Having eUniverse employees as the first users, MySpace caught limelight when it became the most popular social networking website in 2006 in the United States of America.

Second only to facebook, to which it lost its position only recently, MySpace has been able to retain its popularity and is one of the most successful social networking websites present today. With more than 100 million registered users and increasing, MySpace is not only competitive, but also portrays huge potential.

MySpace offers its members with an interactive session in which they can contact friends and access their profiles, create blogs, upload photos, multimedia content like music and videos etc. All these enable the user of MySpace to meet new people at the same time keeping in touch with the old friends.

Signing up on MySpace is a simple process. There is no hassle involved whatsoever. One can create an account on it just by filling out a simple registration form like every other site. After the form is submitted, you become a registered member of the MySpace community. You’ll be provided with an email Id and a password which can be used to access the account as and when desired. People who have MSN accounts can use the same Id for logging onto MySpace.

Like most of the other networking sites, it offers profiles to its members which can be customized to suit their likes. Elements like colour and fonts can be changed by the use of Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) or by using HTML tags. MySpace does not take any accountability for the content that goes is circulated on MySpace. There are no regulations defining the kind of content that should be uploaded or written. Due to this, one can easily come across pictures and videos of items which are sexually explicit or offending in nature. A lot many parents find this revolting and hence forbid their children from accessing this website.

It should be kept in mind that it has much more to it than just music and bands. Overall, MySpace is a good site to keep in touch with friends, families and to meet new people. It has its set of misgivings but on the whole it makes a fine social networking site. Considering that it is slow at a lot of times and has some heavy bandwidth utilizing features, it is not suited for those surfing with slow internet connections.
