Adsense CTR
What is everyones CTR? I'm happy what I make now, but I was looking at my CTR and it's very low. Less than 1% low. And then I see people with 10% CTR and 20% CTR and I was wondering if they're just lucky? Because if I had a higher CTR, I would be making thousands per month with just AdSense so I want to start working on my CTR and was hoping some people might have special tricks or strategies?

My CTR is brutal, but I'm cool with it because a V2 of my site should be coming out in a month or so, so it will improve then (I hope)

What are you doing to get more CTR? I'm going to try to find a way to make the ads more noticeable...

I tried making them the same color as the background, that didn't work.
I tried using colors present on the site to make it stand out, that didn't work.
I think I need to change my placement, maybe a tower to the right? Right beside the scrollbar?

i changed my ads earlier this month. i was getting a CTR less than 1%. Now after my ad changed im up to 3 to 4%. I ran a a d at the top and than right column. I decided to delete the side ad and make the ads appear within my posts of my blog, right before my text. Also changed the BG to match the posts. Worked out good for me. I am still new to this and i only get around 20 visitors a day to my site but roughly now, 25% of the visitors click a ad. i get about 5 clicks a day.

also if your ads dont do any of these a person is more likely to click it.
Pops-up in front of your window
Loads slowly
Tries to trick you into clicking on it
Does not have a "Close" button
Covers what you are trying to see
Doesn't say what it is for
Moves content around
Occupies most of the page
Blinks on and off
Floats across the screen
Automatically plays sound
Get ads that dont do that crap it will help

Thanks for the advice.
I get about 6-8k impressions but only like 60 clicks or so. I'm happy with it but when I see people with 20% CTR and stuff, I could be making a lot more!

How did you determine their CTR?
Be careful in trying to raise the CTR that you do not employ a tactic that would have Google drop you from AdSense.
My AdSense now runs around 3% based off about 2000 impressions per day. Be careful not to use CTR's based off low ad impressions. I would say, as a rule of thumb, no less than 1000 impression per day for meaningful CTR's.
The other side of the coin is that the CTR's will generally drop as impressions increase. When I showed the ads on our forum, our impressions shot up to 12,000+ per day and the CTR's dropped to less than 1%. This meant about the same $ value per day. After realizing this it was apparent that I was getting more clicks for the same $ value and in-turn was likely loosing customers to other sites.

well people coming to your page from a forum are just looking at your sig usually and arent even interested in the topic of your site, therefor your CTR will be lower. Its like that for me today alot of visits from peeps in this forum today but only 4 clicks

Huh? My forum is on-topic with my site and the AdSense is on-topic with the pages they are displayed on. Sorry, cannot see your point.

I know what you're saying. I go to lots of peoples sites from forum sig links. But I have no interest at all in the sites. I just wanna see what they are. Lots of people get irrelevant visitors from forums like that

Most of my traffic though is from direct address, bookmarks, or SE's. I only get about 4% of my traffic from links.
I determined their CTR cause I was selling their site for them and they told me

Well, on a site of mine I do the "In with Adwords, Out with Adsense" model and I have about a 12% CTR on it. On another, which just gets natural traffic, I have about a 2% CTR. I think the biggest determination on CTR is placement and implementation into your design. If it looks like a big ugly leaderboard banner, people will tune it out just like they do the big ugly banners used on hotmail.
I would try different things. Like for instance, on UTN, I want to keep adsense off the directory (so it doesnt look cheesy), but I dont mind putting it on the forums and some of the articles and stuff. So I used to have the adsense on the right of the forums here: http://www.uncoverthenet.com/forum/ , but I moved it to the left and made some changes to it (size, color, background, border, text color, etc), and my CTR tripled.
