Google Adsense

Just curious, for those of you who are using google adsense, when using the filter to remove ads from specific advertisers, how long does it take for the ads to be removed?

In my experience, it has been anywhere from 1/2 hour to a couple of hours.

I've never removed any so can't comment.

Would I be right in assuming the removal of advertisers could marginally lower your EPC?

Yes it would. It seems like for all my sites hosting ads and other tech related ads appear way more often than the content targeted ads so thats why I blocked alot of them. The whole deal for me was content specific ads vs just tossing up a bunch of random ads.

In the early days of adsense (July) I would sometimes see a banned ad appearing as late as 1 day after adding it to my filter.

Thanks you guys (generic of course ). Had a bunch of donation type ads; not targeted ads that I wanted to filter out. Took more than a day and was wondering if that was normal. I can see that it varies

Well the PSA ads will appear as a default until google's adsense bot has spidered enough to know what is on the pages as far as relevent content.

The fastest method to remove non-targeted ads from google adsense is by adding alternate ad url.. something like:

google_alternate_ad_url = "<insert url to picture or page or 3rd party banner>";

in your adsense javascript code.

Now the million dollar questions: How ofen does the crawler crawl the page and update the ads contents accordingly?

i wish i new the answer to that. I have a 300+ page site and it has been over a month and these pages still haven't been spidered again to get more relevant ads.
