Ad-Revenue Sharing on DP is bad for potential Google AdSense websites
Alright I was banned from DP and I asked the guy to just close my account, but he won't. I left my Google AdSense ID on my username and, well, I get useless impressions every now and then.
This in a fact is actually bad for me and the small article I wrote explains it at:
http://www.redscowl-bluesingsky.us/a...is-bad-for-ctr
Quote:
This article is to prove why Ad-Revenue Sharing is a bad thing for Google AdSense in most cases. We all know that DigitalPoint has an Ad-Revenue sharing forum. It is never good to gain any clicks, only impressions.
On a personal basis, my DP Account was suspended and the Revenue still flows in from DP every now and then (tons of impressions), however, I get a lot of clicks on my game website:
http://games.cecilsabu.com/
The value of impressions is decreasing right now due to the fact that I am getting so many impressions on DP but not enough click-throughs…If you are a webmaster with websites which have potential Google AdSense revenue, don’t use Ad-Revenue Sharing Methods on forums, since nobody clicks on them anymore.
|
Also, I seem to be getting around 400 impressions a day with people playing games..is there anyone in particular I should be thanking for all that referrals or was it just Google AdWords, since I didn't spend much money on it...
Is spreading my website by word-of-mouth throughout my friends causing all this traffic??

"don’t use Ad-Revenue Sharing Methods on forums, since nobody clicks on them anymore."
No one clicks on ads in forums? I'm sure quite a few people could argue that point.

I do not use DP's Adsense revenue sharing thing, although I am a member there, so I cannot comment on that.
But I will comment on Adsense in Forums.
On Suzuki-Bikes.com we the moderators have their Adsense on the site, on on the Motorcycle-Journal.com forums. When the Adsense was removed from the site and left only on the forums, the adsense dropped like 90%. It's amazing how little people click on Adsense when it's on forums.

I've turned it on and turned it off over there...no real noticeable impact on earnings either way.

Adsense CTR on forums is without a doubt lower than on a "normal" webpage. The theory (which I agree with) is a typical forum member will generate a higher number of pageviews that a typical "website" viewer will which results in a lower CTR. Case in point I've probably already generated a few hundred pageviews here today.
I was just pointing out that the blanket statement "people don't click on ads in forums" is incorrect.

Yes, that would be incorrect as a blanket statement. I recall one site we run (100% forum) making $1,500 a month.

Yeah but think about it, if yo put a leaderboard underneat the first post, most people will get accustomed to it and just find it a nuisance and skip it, like I do..
I usually try to find what other people have to say right below it also..so I just ignore these ads.

Regular members of a forum tend to become "ad blind". Guests on the other hand....
I've never actually tracked it but I bet guests click on ads 10 to 1 when compared to members.

What are you basing that on? I doubt the thousands of people who visit my game forum (via the SE's) are "forum pros" and based on my registrations vs total traffic I would say that most don't register.

IMO
If you are getting good CPC and you know why CTR is low then there is no need to worry.
!) I don't share DP's adsense revenue because i know its useless.
@) Why you got bannnnnnned .... $%^*)

Ok think about it like this:
DP has over a million pages of good content and is in the top listings for A LOT of keywords..
Now all the traffic delivered to them AND the amount of members they have only helps a person want to join.
This is just my opinion, that's how I joined...

I wouldn't argue that...but how does that relate to your comment;

nino, you post like a million posts a day and start so many threads every 5 seconds...I don't sit in front of a computer doing this...
I made $3 via AdSense WITH DP, but now make around $7.50 without it, because of the good clickthrough rates on my sites..

Sounds like sour grapes to me.
I post infrequently on DP and other adsense sharing forums, and earn a small from it - personally, I don't care either way.

hmm...well you're the boss! I personally hate it because I get few impressions on my site, but get a lot of click-throughs...
DP on the other hand gets LOTS of impressions, but most people are ignoring them.....
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH I don't know what to think..

Well I removed mine and I must admit my click amounts on my sites went up over 30% the very next day.
Coincidence?

At least someone tried it before they started criticizing what I had to say!! Thanks George. Here is my conclusion:
Usually I see a few people start a thread fewed over 1,000 times or more and have around 5 pages of posts, now I bet THOSE people will probably get a few clicks here and there...However, if you're not a DP Fanatic, and don't create useful threads every few hours or so...try removing it and check the results.
Preoved my point!!
P.S. I'd give you some rep George, but it says I gotta share the love!!

As the threads you posted in die, you'll generate less impressions and eventually you'll be close to zero impressions a day and you'll be back to geting rich quick from AdSense!!!
Instead of asking Shawn to close your account, you should of asked him to take your AdSense code out. He hever deleted accounts!!! And creating a second account there is a no-no!!!!
