Adsense Question
Hi,
I have spent quite a bit of time optimising adsense on my website.
I have used the competetive filter to remove all of the spammy adsense ads for directory sites and am now showing better quality relevent ads.
This is what I earned yesterday.

Is this about the best I can hope for, other than increasing traffic is there anything else I can do to increase adsense revenue.
Thanks.

This was my best day so far, not an average day.

Well since I have did all of the work to improve google adsense performance my site seems to have gotten banned by google. I have lost 80% of the traffic in the last two days. I have no idea what I did wrong!

Wow. You are under penalty. You had to have done something.
....
I have a question. What's with the robots.txt? Why
That's kind of useless.
And I think your inbound links... they all seem to come from forum sig links and Matt Cutts' blog.

I am at a loss as to what I have done. I have been trying to use only whitehat tacticts.
I noticed I was getting 404 errors by not having a robots.txt file so I created a generic one. I do have a few good backlinks but most are currently from forum siggies.

Sig links is not really the most "white" of tactics.

I am a member of several online forums and I do tend to post a lot on all of them. I never considered that doing this would get my site banned from google. So far it has helped me with networking and I can see from my logs I attract some traffic from my forum siggie links.
When I launched my site I used robo forms and webprofessors script to submit to directories. I think I have submitted to almost 1,000 directories in total. I do have some good backlinks, just not enough of them YET!
I am not sure what I have done to piss google off so much. In the past I have reported to them the problems I had using a double hyphened domain name with their search engine and was under the impression they were going to make improvements to make it work correctly. Infact, it appeared, and I believed some changes for double hyphen domains went online in the days before my site was banned.
Perhaps it was cheaper for them to ban my domain than to fix the search engine. Is there any way I can discover why I was banned?

Well, I think anybody who posts their website URL in Matt Cutts blog is going to get looked at. If all the sigs were from sig links I might not like it. I have a sig links from other sites too, but they account for maybe 3% of my total link profile.

I have looked through all of my inbound links using yahoo site explorer in the past, there are currently 1100+ links showing, of which over 50 are directory links. Im not sure why but they tend to be later in the backlinks and harder to find. I do have an awful lot of links from forums. Should I stop adding links to my forum posts?

I took a common sense approach:
I wanted to make sure people had a good chance of seeing / clicking on my adsense ads, so I moved my adsense units to have one at the top and one at the bottom.
Then I looked at what was being displayed on the ads. I think the spammy looking directory sites (in my case mostly directories of florists) would be lower paying and my customers would be less likely to click on them. I removed all the ads I wouldnt personally have clicked on and left clean looking ads.
