AdSense in Gmail is showing my competition

So i sent out my company newsletter yesterday and later opened it up in my Gmail account. I am sure most of the Gmail users out there have noticed this already, but Gmail displays AdSense on the right side of your messages.

So basically every time i send a newsletter and it is read in Gmail, links to my competitors will be displayed.

anyone figured out a way around this, or even noticed this to be a problem yet?

Add a line about death in the email. Death related messages do not show ads in gmail.

The other question is how many people in your list are gmail users? and would it even be worth it?

without checking i would imagine a small percentage of my customers use Gmail. but i would imagine as time continues more and more will start using it. which is why i am trying to be a head of the game.

don't think the owner of my company would be to thrilled if i wrote something about death in our newsletter that is being sent to 40,000+ people, but not a bad idea.

You could make it a small line at the very bottom.

"If you would like to unsubscribe blah blah blah... But it would be like a death in the family to lose you."

a bit of humor and it takes care of the purpose.

it doesn't really work. i tested it. i put the line at the bottom of my newsletter. the ads still showed up. however when i put a few of my keywords in an e-mail and sent it first with the word death, then without it worked.

i am guessing it measures to see a certain percentage of words to words that it does not display ads for.

still looking for a way around this. its certainly not helping that is display my competition's ads every time i write a newsletter.

I tried an email with lots of Lipsum and "death in the family" at the bottom, and it worked.

I'm impressed.

only to an extent. when i tried it, it didn't work.

i tested it two ways. the first i sent short e-mail with several keywords. i sent that e-mail twice, once with the word death, the other without.

this time it worked with the word death in it.

then i sent my newsletter with the word death at the bottom. it displayed ads this time.

so it looks like this is not an efficient way of blocking ads.

if you want to see for yourself, PM me your Gmail address and i will send you my newsletter.
