It was a bad day for earnings, but it seems like we're having more and more of those lately.

Do you think smart pricing is causing it?

In general bids seem to be going down. They've gone down about 15% each of the last two quarters from what I've seen. I think it's normal as people gain more understanding of PPC. My guess is people are lowering bids on individual keyphrases while casting a wider net of keyphrases to draw in either the same or simply more targeted traffic.

I get regular $2 clicks on one of my sites. But then another of my sites always gets the cheapest payout per click possible. grrr.

Have to disagree there, a site I manage gets a CTR of between 10-20% (that is assuming you consider this a high CTR!) and usually over $1 per click

I don't think it has anything to do with CTR, or the likes. It's all about the topic. if advertisers pay $.10/click. you make pennies. If advertisers pay $45/click, you make bucks. My tech site and law site easily get the $1 clicks but with lower traffic. My tv show site got lots of $.03/clicks and my dog site gets avg $.20/click. None of them are making me rich, but hey... the occasional $100 check is always cool

Is this the scenario with webmaster related ads? If not, what niche (don't have to state it, but in general) are you targetting?
I completely agree with Dustin, it really all depends on the targetted topic.
If it's those Mesothelioma ads, than that's another story.

Try a different niche.. thats really low and probably due to your niche just not being too profitable.

Definitely the topic that determines the price of each click like Dustin said. What I find on my site is payouts per click of anywhere from a few pennies to a couple of bucks. I think the high for one click has been just under $2. I'm not planning on changing my overall topic, but what I am trying to do is identify which specific articles I have seem to generate the most payout and then write more articles on that subtopic.
I'll also look for other niches within my overall topic that might pay more, but I'm not looking to change the overall topic.

Wow!
Was thinking of heading to AdSense for the first time, but with those kind of numbers maybe I should stay away from the whole project.
However, it does seem that many of you are nailing it with these dollar clicks. I guess it really is a niche issue that should be well thought out before I implement just any old niche.

I think AdSense will only deliver high paying adverts once you become established in their system..Maybe why Shoemoney earns so much..

They might be international visitors.
It's all about supply and demand. The advertisers want to pay $0.05 per click, so the publishers get $0 -$0.03 per click.
