is there a way of improving earnings with adsense

i have had 22 clicks on my adsense today and only earned $1.71

Yes. You can target your content for higher-paying keywords. Everyone else is doing the zact same thing, so good luck with *that*.

If you are getting a good number of clicks but very poor pay out, you might want to try a related affiliate program with a good pay out.

Increase traffic.
Increase CTR - Better positioning, colors, etc (you can find tons of info on this)
Target higher paying keywords. Getting tougher to do. I suggest niche targeting.
Use affiliate or other methods to make $.
