I totally agree with that, i started making websites back in the 90's and not alot of people knew about advertising revenue or adsense then, even though it existed (not as google though) it existed through mostly rotations of banners sometimes earning £3 per click! Although the average user then would not know that if they clicked the ad the webmaster would recieve money for it. I'm pretty sure that is the case for a pretty large percentage of users these days too, although most users assume the webmaster will recieve some sort of revenue from advertising I don't think they suspect it as sole incomes for websites.
I generally believe that you can still make money out of Adsense if you plan it right, but do not make it your sole income and don't just have a website purely for adsense, because that just sucks.
