How does adsense work?

I understand that you have to put the ads on your site. So how do they calculate how much money you get per click?

That requires you to login.

Short Answer: The $ you get per-click is a % of what AdWords customers pay google.

In a nutshell, they calculate how much you earn per click depending on the particular keyword that ad was bidding for. Keywords in different niches earn different amounts of money, and Google doesn't share exactly what percentage of the bid you get.

The money you get is determined based on how much maximum money for each click other folks whose ads are displayed pay into the Adwords program.

You get a % of what they pay google when they click on an ad on your site.

It's not a huge percentage - some people say 10% or 20%, but if you're earning $100+ a month, who's complaining

Google not only pay you 10~20%, but 60~70%. That's the reason many people like google, just because they pay more then others.

adsense in vague sense corelated to traffic you can drive to your website, the high you pageranked in S.E.O the more you get paid for adsense (don't take the literal meaning of my words).

the formula is too complex to estimate, there are hundreds of variables going into the amount you get paid.
