This should be interesting.
A case is coming up before the U.S. Supreme Court seeking clarification of U.S. gun laws.
As it stands, Americans, according to the 2nd Amendment, have the right to keep firearms.
But there are thousands of individual state laws that restrict gun owners. Even if you cross from one county into another, or from one city into another, within the very same state, you may be breaking the law regarding firearms possession and transportation.
And I'm not even talking about concealed carry yet.
It won't be discussed and debated until next year, unfortunately, but I can't wait to see what is decided.
I keep hearing all the time that when it comes to medical marijuana Federal law trumps state law.
Well, will federal law trump state law in regards to guns?
Remains to be seen, but we do need a standardization of state gun laws in the U.S. Being legal in one does not mean you are being legal when you go into another, and 'ignorance is no excuse' should not apply as it is not all that easy to figure out the laws from place to place when you must travel.
And I'm curious to see how Sotomeyor votes on this.
