As many as 9 killed in Fort Hood shootings, officials say

Two gunmen in military uniforms shot and killed as many as nine people and wounded as many as 20 at Fort Hood in Texas on Thursday, officials said.

One of the shooters has been apprehended, Fort Hood spokesman Sgt. Maj. Jamie Posten told CNN.

"At this point we're looking for the other shooter," Posten said. Asked for a description, he said, "we're trying to develop that information."

The shooters were wearing military uniforms, but it was unclear whether they were soldiers, said U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas

President Obama has been informed of the incident, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters

This is very sad, there is not enough information right now to comment on this tragedy.

12 killed and 31 wounded shoot from other soldier(s)? The army has a very serious problem to solve as quick as possible.

Fwiw, on any given day there are roughly the same number of people on that base as live in the city where I reside (25,000+). Odds are pretty good your friend didnt even hear shots fired. Nonetheless let us know when you hear from 'em.

Hoping for the best, Cricket.

Could this have been a stress-related incident? Waiting to hear more.

It seems like the shooter was an Army Maj. Licensed Psychiatrist.

Cannot have confidence in anybody even a MD...

I was stationed at Fort Hood.

When I left basic combat training and AIT and got my orders that I was going to Fort Hood, the day I arrived on the base there was a driveby shooting just a day or two prior on the very same field that we did physical training on.

I heard that the Major that went on this killing spree was of Arabic ethnicity, and Islamic.

Just a shame on this, and may those soldiers rest in peace. They really are in a better world now.

UPDATE: A soldier opened fire on a military processing center at Fort Hood in Texas on Thursday, killing 12 people and wounding 30, officials at the Army base said.

Apparently, a few more people have died and there are more injured than they originally thought. Also, the 2 men that were taken in for questioning have been released.

Are you sure about that? I am watching the news and reading about it online and it says everywhere that he is dead.

There were 2 other suspects that were released awhile ago.

This is just going to add to the hate already given towards Muslims based on what the extremists do.

His aunt said he had endured years of abuse and harassment after the 9/11 attacks based solely on the fact that he was Muslim. He kind of just proved the point that of why alot of people hate people following this religion.

Was his motive solely based on the fact that he was about to deployed to kill his fellow religious people, or could it be more such as a probable act of terrorism? Could he have been a member of an extremist group in hiding as a sleeper agent?

Either way, I hope Texas gives him the death penalty. He doesn't deserve to live anymore.

I am so weary of people blaming PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) for the senseless murders on Fort Hood yesterday. One week prior to this tragedy, Major Nidal Malik Hasan made comments concerning his upcoming deployment (his 1st) and his serious reservations about being put in a position of having to fight fellow Muslims.

EXCUSE ME?

Clearly that religious conviction didn't keep him from killing American soldiers and destroying lives right here at home, the one place our troops and families should have been safe.
