U.S. Seen as Less Important, China as More Powerful

Isolationist Sentiment Surges to Four-Decade High

The general public and members of the Council on Foreign Relations are apprehensive and uncertain about America’s place in the world. Growing numbers in both groups see the United States playing a less important role globally, while acknowledging the increasing stature of China. And the general public, which is in a decidedly inward-looking frame of mind when it comes to global affairs, is less supportive of increasing the number of U.S. troops in Afghanistan than are CFR members.

The growth of China as an Economical Power is undeniable. However, as long as China doesn't change their political system from communism to democracy they are bound to stay just as an Economical Power, not becoming a, if not the, World Power that it could be.

Too much Exports and almost no Imports.

No doubt about China going first economic power in the world. The main problem is the unbalanced export/import and the most important is not putting the Yuan at his real currency rate.

They must correct that in fair trade otherwise some countries will go for protectionism or will play games.

Indeed. No doubt you are aware of the proposition of China to make an international currency proposed on the latest G-20 Summit?

Were this notion to pass China would end up as the first economical power far sooner than the US expect, however I very much doubt that the US would let the international currency (dollar) be changed, it would bring far too many repercussions to the international market itself, not only the US.

That and considering the current recession...
