Your opinion about smoking

What is your opinion about smoking?

In my opinion smoking is something that makes you enjoy the time.
Smoking in public places have been forbidden in The Netherlands. Though doesn't smoking make a club, pub or any other lounge make it a real place to hang around?

I understand why people forbid smoking in restaurants and dining places, because some people do not appreciate the smell of smoke during their dinner.

Yes, it is bad for your health and yes it is expensive.

I pay 5,00 for a pack of 25 cigarets. I smoke around 1 pack a week.
To expensive? In my opinion it's worth it. Though it could be cheaper, hehe.

Let me know what you think of smoking and if you smoke yourself!

smoking is slow poisoning , it is waste of money as well. all bad things in it.
a smoker not only harms his health but affect others too. the money wasted on smoking can be used on some creative work. thousands of people are homeless, hungary , poor.
I would request you to quite smoking and donate this money in some good cause.
you can find easy tricks and tip to quick smoking
good luck

It disgusts me to no end and I cannot believe people could be so suckered into ever starting in the first place... I am amused when I see a dozen people huddled outside in the cold to get their fix.

But hey, I would rather smokers pay the taxes rather than the gov make me pay more to make up for it

I would guess it is clear I am not a smoker...

edit: Oh and just because I posed in this crazy section, I hope no one thinks I will be making a "habit" of it...
Wasn't that punny?

Making a 'habit ' of it. Funny, pcTec.

I do not smoke...cigarettes. 'Nuff said.

I don't care what it is a person is doing, long as it is not against the will of anyone involved and it is not bothering anyone else.

Loud music in a car passing by? Turn it down, I don't want to hear it.

Having a tryst in the park on a sunny day? Get a motel room! I don't want to see that!

Having a smoke right near the door? Take it somewhere else! I don't want to even smell that nasty acrid smoke!

If you want to kill yourself, you should have the right to do it, long as you don't force others to watch or take an unwilling part in it. Don't jump out of a tenth floor window and land on me! That would really make me angry. (Then I'd probably kill you! )

So whatever it is, long as everyone involved is a willing participant and you are not bothering anyone else (such as with the smell of cigarette smoke), I don't have a problem with it.

Just put your butts where they belong. The Earth is OUR Earth and not your own private garbage dump.

I know that smoking is dangerous to my health but i'm already a prisoner of this vice and it's been half of my life that i smoke..I don't think that my name and smoking will ever be separated..But sometimes in my life i tried to quit smoking but i can't do it..It's been a part of my life and it is one thing that i can't let go..

Before i can smoke a half pack a day but now i lower it to 5 sticks a day..In the Philippines you can find a lot of vendors selling cigarettes for just Php 2.50 and that's cheap..

I know what will happened to a smoker's body, but if you are asking me if i'm afraid of that? Hell No! If you're gonna die, you will gonna die..

I find it interesting that some people smoke all their life yet don't die of lung cancer...

Anyone recall a guy named George Burns, who smoked cigars for more than 50 years? What did he die of, old age? He was more than 100!

I think the carcinogens in tobacco smoke may affect individuals differently.

But no matter who you are it still makes your clothing stink, makes your hair stink, ruins the interior of your car, screws up hotel rooms, yellows your drapes, yellows your teeth, leaves holes burned in your nice furniture, takes up a good percentage of your income every year, and, if you are a good-looking female, automatically dismisses you as a potential love interest of mine, but thank goodness you have something to do with your hands, right?

I don't find a woman holding a cigarette between her fingers appealing in the least.

I doubt any of it is not harmful in some way, so I wouldn't encourage anyone to smoke tobacco.

I am a smoker and it is really hard to quit smoking. It is also embarrassing when you smoke around people who do not smoke.

My father smoked for many years and one day just stopped. Instead of cigarettes he kept hard candies in his pocket and sucked on one of those whenever he wanted a smoke.

It worked. He hasn't had a cigarette in more than 40 years.

Many smokers like the feeling of something between their fingers. That's what they've become accustomed to. Why not keep a pencil there instead?

Maybe those two things will help you to quit smoking cigarettes if you want to quit.

'Smoke, Smoke, Smoke (That Cigarette)'

Now I'm a fellow with a heart of gold
And the ways of a gentleman I've been told
The kind-of-a-feller that wouldn't even harm a flea

But if me and a certain character met
The guy that invented that cigarette
I'd murder that son-of-a gun in the first degree

It ain't cuz I don't smoke myself
and i don't reckon that it'll hinder your health
I smoked 'em all my life and I ain't dead yet

But nicotine slaves are all the same
at a pettin' party or a poker game
Everything gotta stop while they smoke that cigarette

CHORUS:

Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette
Puff, puff, puff and if you smoke yourself to death.

Tell St. Peter at the Golden Gate
That you hate to make him wait,
But you just gotta have another cigarette.

In a game of chance the other night
Old dame fortune was doing me right
The kings and queens just kept on comin' around

Then I got a full and I bet' 'em high
But my bluff didn't work on a certain guy
He just kept on raisin' and layin' the money down

Well, he'd raise me and I'd raise him
and I sweated blood, ya gotta sink or swim
He finally called but didn't raise the bet!

I said 'Aces full, pal, how 'bout you?"
He said, "I'll tell you in justa minute or two
But right now, i just gotta have cigarette."

CHORUS

Now the other night I had me a date
with the cutest gal in the 48 states
One of them high-bred, uptown, fancy little dame

She said she loved me and it seemd to me
That things were sorta like they oughtta be
So hand in hand we strolled down lovers lane

She was oh so far from a chunk of ice
Our moonin' party was goin' real nice
So help me, Hannah, I think I'd been there yet

But I gave her a kiss and a little squeeze
Then she said, "You'll have to excuse me, please,
But I just gotta have another cigarette."

CHORUS

Written in 1947 by Merle Travis, for Tex Williams, who recorded it.

I think smoking kills you slowly, but effectively. Have you ever thought what our lungs feel when they are poisoned but they have to breathe? Have ever tried to breathe when there was a lot of smoke nearby? I think now you understand what your lungs feel.

It's hard to quite when you want to because it's mental as well as physical.

Just see how long you can hold your breath...sure, it's mental, but it's also physical because your body will start to do weird things if you hold your breath too long. Nothing you can do about it, ya gotta take another breath.

And ya gotta have another cigarette...

I still say that as long as you don't bother anyone else, and everyone involved is willing, do what you want, man, and enjoy it while you can!

If you enjoy the thrill of rolling down a steep hill sitting in a shopping cart, go right ahead! I'm sure you know it's really gonna hurt when ya crash...but ain't nobody got a right to tell you what you should or shouldn't do, right?

And if you want to smoke five packs a day, I think you should be able to do that, too. You're the one who'll have to face the consequences of your actions, not me.

Personally, I like being able to take a deep breath and not have an oxygen tank following me everywhere I go...

Bryant Gumbel Cancer: Announces Lung Cancer On "Regis"

Huffington Post | Danny Shea
First Posted: 12- 8-09 09:04 AM | Updated: 12- 8-09 11:44 AM

Bryant Gumbel announced Tuesday morning that he had cancer surgery two months ago to remove a malignant tumor on his lung.

Gumbel, 61, was guest-hosting "Live! with Regis and Kelly," filling in for Regis Philbin, who recently underwent successful hip replacement surgery.

Gumbel told viewers that he kept his surgery private, and that part of his lung was removed in the surgery. He and his doctor hope that his treatment is completed.

"We had told a few people, we told my family, obviously," Gumbel said. "I even kept it from my staff at 'Real Sports.' So I'm okay for the time being."

Gumbel said that he is seeing his surgeon next week.

"I'm hoping they greenlight me to play golf again," he said.

Gumbel is the host of HBO's "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel." He spent 15 years as co-host of NBC's "Today" show.

Gumbel has been known to smoke cigars, CNN notes. According to a Cigar Aficionado article, CNN/US President Jon Klein gave Gumbel a humidor when both were at CBS in the 1990s to celebrate the launch of Gumbel's show, "Public Eye."

Story Here.

Of couse every one decides for themselves, I tried a cigarrette when I was 10 years old and I didn't like it at all, so I don't smoke now and not going in the future. As for the other people smoking, of couse I don't like the smoke and realise that it can be harmful for me, so I try to avoid meeting them

My grandfather smoked for 65 years. And not the filtered cigarettes either... hand rolled dead-ends. Died at 98 from unrelated causes.

Yet, my father died at age 54 from lung cancer. (An age not too far off for me)

I think it all depends on the body in question and lifestyle. Some seem to handle the abuse better than others.

I've been smoking for 30 years now. Must quit soon!

I think every smoker have a 'quit' word on their mind but it is so hard to stop smoking when are already used to it..Conviction will really play a big role if you really want to stop it..But me, i don't think i can quit it maybe to lessen it but not totally stop it..
