Are You Afraid To Discuss Wikileaks?

Recently a few people have cautioned me about discussing Wikileaks in public, that perhaps I was setting myself up for issues by doing so.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

That has me curious. Are people seriously afraid to discuss this issue openly?

I'm not.
But then again, I don't live in the US.
And with recent developments in travel security (read xenophobia), it doesn't look like I'll be in the US anytime soon.

It's difficult to say what, if anything, will happen to those speaking about it.
But who knows what it might take to get yourself "on the radar"?

Surprise...I actually have a different take than Zap.

I'm not remotely afraid of government retribution...and wouldn't be even if I disagreed with them. But I did take pause when I spoke against the vigilantes who target anyone that gets in their cross hairs. Mostly what that meant for me was I didn't @ them in tweets as I normally would when discussing a twitter account.

Same here (New Zealand)

Regarding travel, I refuse to submit to the so called 'security' procedures in force in the US (huge invasion of privacy, born out of unreasonable fear. And ineffective anyway) in the only way I can - I've stopped traveling to the US and arrange to meet up with my friends and affiliates outside of the country instead. Next get together is in Malaysia.

There's no scans, patdowns, pre-travel interviews, credit card history checks etc in Israel - ever wondered why in a country with one of the highest threat levels.

As you know, I am not afraid to discuss WikiLeaks.
What I am afraid to do is host a mirror site.
Wikileaks is currently mirrored on 2194 sites (updated 2010-12-16 17:45 GMT)
That's a job I have to leave up to others.

...I think Julian is a very educated, passionate man and what he is doing has merit. However, this MUCH of the truth is not always a good thing when the world has unrest as it does...but The Onion is always able to see the funny side

I obviously am not afraid to discuss it and would not be even if I agreed with Rabble. This country is a very long way from taking action against people who disagree with the established viewpoints. And the hackers are not going to waste their time with retribution against a single individual because that won't get them on the news.

I do agree with him that hosting a mirror site would be begging for trouble.

Well, I highly disagree with Freedom of The Press when not tempered with responsibility. There are several tidbits that the public really need not know.
Most are to stupid to fathom anyway which leads to a polarization of community. This over things they cannot or will not make a difference.
When folks vote for government more than the latest Idol I may reconsider.

Retribution is far from a concern.
As was quoted previously, 'If it doesn't get ink they are not concerned'...besides, none of this was in the best interest of anyone save the instigators.

I don't like it when people call other people "stupid" or assume that people are to (too) stupid.

I don't like it when it rains on Wednesdays...
But when it does, Thursdays are usually nearby...

Ignorance and stupidity are two separate things. There are many Americans who are ignorant about many of the issues that we face today, but they are not stupid. The people who want to look at most everyone else as stupid are the real problem. Stupid is as stupid does, and what has been done to our nation by the elitists for the last 80 years is stupid.

I have something I wis to discuss about wikileaks.
This weekend I accessed their warlogs to do some research into Fallujah.
What I found was very strange is although the site claims to have 466743 results
spanning 46675 pages, there are actually only 58 pages.
If you try to access page 59 there is nothing there, the same
for all the numbers higher.

Are they still in the process of releasing
those pages? And, I wonder why I haven't read anywhere else that
only such a small fraction of the Iraq war documents have been published?

I'm glad you think I have the right to look at them, Jake.
If they ever come to round up those who've looked at them me and you can be cell buddies.

I think only about 2000 docs have been released so far, but can only find that number buried in the the bottom of other stories so I don't know how accurate it is.

Don't know what you are referring to about look at them. Are you talking about something in one of the other threads?

It's a ton of fun discussing Wikileaks. It's scary how many people believe that it is OK for their government to lie to them and keep secrets. They get my very best "You've got to be joking!!!!"

Hope you're not talking to me. Telling the kids that Santa is real and babies come from cabbage patches is a little different from telling people who elected you on the basis of open and accountable government and who then proceeded to go to illegal wars on the basis of known untruths causing the deaths of many, many children, many families wiped out.

Families like yours, innocent of any wrongdoing, simply minding their own business, trying to earn a living and survive in this world - destroyed because of "bad intel", "the missile went off course", "oh, we thought"

I hope you're not talking to me

Have you ever handled a situation without your children's approval or even their knowledge?

Hey, JakeMoore
Isn't it funny how some people who have such strong opinions cannot even begin to conceive that other people might have a good point (see boblord666)
