Maybe They'll Need A Moat

Quote:
‎"Maybe they'll need a moat," Obama said mockingly to laughter from the crowd. "Maybe they'll want alligators in the moat." http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011...#ixzz1M0aEYzbO
My comments aren't really party related, so I definitely don't want to start a war across parties. I just take it kinda personal when anyone, let alone a president (of any party) mockingly jokes about the seriousness of what it happening on the border. For those who do not like the news source I linked to, please feel free to use another source. The quote is the same on every source...

For those who wonder if there are really serious issues on the border, I would challenge you to spend some time actually living near one.

The number of illegal immigrants living in the United States was virtually unchanged in 2010 from a year earlier, but statistics suggest their population in Texas continued to grow, according to new estimates from the Pew Hispanic Center. http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/loc...xas-990654.php

I wish I had the answer, but if the federal government isn't going to do the job of enforcing our borders, I almost wonder if each state should be given more control of the security and allowed to actually ENFORCE the laws...

I tried to open this discussion on FB but it turned into mudslinging and disrespect.

It makes me sad when we can't openly discuss things and find ways to make a difference. I think that is a huge part of the problems we see in government is that everyone is so busy throwing dirt at the other side that we accomplish nothing....

Maybe we can try here on the V7N to have an open discussion without the disrespect.

Just my 2 cents as always...

Very well put Cricket!

Like I added at Facebook I think it is a rather simple problem to solve on the surface. There is a Federal law in place that addresses the issue. While the law exists it should be enforced by local state and federal enforcement agencies.

Robbing a federal bank is a federal crime, yet the local police still respond, why is the federal law of immigration any different? I've always been confused how a law enforcement agency or officer can pick and choose what laws to enforce and what laws to ignore.

I mean it is no offense to anyone personally, it is as simple as whether there is a law or not. To cover the matter of whether the law is right or not, it comes down to the process of changing those laws that are wrong.

The enforcement of the border is really for not I think unless the law is first enforced to begin with. I may be looking at it to simplistically.

I guess I should add, I think it is best to work through the system, after all that is why the system is there, and it does seem to usually work much better when it is worked through instead of everyone trying to work around the system......

I did not read any of those. No point reading all that stuff again.

We can waste our time building fences or moats at some ridiculous cost or we can enact laws that make the penalty so damn severe for people that hire them that only a fool would hire hire them.

No jobs == no money == no reason other than food stamps and free health care to come here. We could attack those issues also if the politicians had any man-berries. But Tyson and they other corporate interests that want the cheap labor prevent that from happening.

Political whores for sale to the highest bidder. We have about 535 of them in the Congress.

I don't think we oughta discard the crocodiles idea too hastily

[Although... if we feed guys sneaking across the border to the crocs, we'll probably get letters from PETA.]

Just why States pass Draconian measures to deal with the problem rather than ordinary legislation or simple enforcement of the existing laws might some day be analyzed for a specific cause such as Fluoridation of their drinking water.

This is always a tuff discussion when you are dealing with humans. They are like us, trying to get ahead in the world. Many are doing it against the law. For some reason our government is not enforcing the laws. Enforce the laws the rest will take care of itself.

But since we have not enforce the law for many years we have many living here for years and have created a life. This is tuff to do away with them back to their country( illegal immigrants ).

Now we should stop the in coming and deal with ones already here. Very Hard

The politicians look at the 12 million votes they are hoping to get that is why it is a political hot potato. They don't want to do their job and haven't done it for a long time. We are getting more and more crime and drugs in this country and the wars that are going on are spilling into our country with the kidnappings and things that have been going on in bordering states. Our police officers here in oregon can't doing anything about an illegal unless there is an ICE officer with them to tell them they can. Unless an illegal does a criminal act and gets arrested can they deport them. But usually they wind up in our prisons and we are paying for their upkeep. The ones that are deported wind up sneaking back into the country very easily. Don't be fooled Mexico doesn't want them either. Plus, the income to Mexico is their second highest source of income. The mexicans that are here legally and have gone through all the expense and legalities resent the ones that are living here and haven't. There are sections of LA that the police won't even go into anymore, that shouldn't have ever gotten that bad.

I was in the grocery store not long ago and a mexican mother and child were behind me. The boy was about 9 or 10 years of age and he was talking to his mother in english. She corrected him and told him to talk in spanish. I have worked with Mexicans and some of them REFUSE to speak or learn english. That ticks me off. I would have said something to the mother if her child hadn't been there but it is hard when a child is involved and they don't understand what is going on. I refuse to learn their language because I am not in Mexico, my country speaks English (at least it use to) My grandkids know spanish and are being taught that in school. I have politely ask them not to speak it around me. I have explained why to them and they honor that.

Personally I think we have tolerated too much
