Who's Eyeing You On Facebook?

This issue has been raised before but there was a new article on Yahoo this morning thought I would post it here.

Quote:
There can't be many Internet users who haven't heard of Facebook – the social network site, brainchild of U.S. college student Mark Zuckerberg. But worryingly, it's not just our friends who are keeping up with what we're doing online. Debt collectors, potential employers and even lawyers could be finding out much more than you'd want them to. Here we examine the worrying trends on the social network site and consider how you can take steps to avoid being spied on.

Steps to avoid being spied on? Easy. Don't use Facebook. Problem solved.

It's not that hard to make your FB profile inaccessible to people who aren't your FB friends.

Any thoughts on the blog post?

I thought the blog post was a bit overblown. The debt collector example seems like a non-issue to me. If a debt collector somehow tricks you into friending them, then just un-friend them. If they send you unwanted messages, then mark the messages as spam.

Several years back I was a licensed private investigator here in Florida.......the amount of information that is available through legitimate sources is unbelievable......
Persons that have a legal need for such information can gather it without much difficulty....
I acquired social security numbers, drivers license numbers and more...
I even had legal access to cell phone calls...
Debt collectors can access credit reports that contain a wealth of information....

Info posted on the net is for amateurs.......

Don't post anything that you do not want the world to know....
There are a lot of strange people in the world...some are dangerous....

You can change your privacy settings as you like or you can use some facebook applications which tell you who is viewing your profile and then you can block them.

Actually, no Facebook app can tell you who is viewing your profile. Apps that claim that they can do this are scams.
