For the record, Stephen had indeed unsubscribed to this thread and has answered my questions via PM.

Well, actually he didn't, but he explained why he felt he couldn't. Which is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. I think.

@Rob

You know damn well my participation in this thread has not been a hit and skip or
a drive-by. I have stated my opinion clearly and succinctly over the course of
numerous posts.

Let's see if I can put a pretty bow on it for you.

I do not care a whit if Michelle Obama took her family with her when she went
on her trip to South Africa. I don't care if they went on safari.
They didn't actually kill anything. (That would have probably upset me).
I also think it's great Michelle went to see Nelson Mandela.

And yet you didnt answer a single question... but mark your calendar, today you officially announced support of special privilege for the elite so long as they share an ideology you like. Michelle gets a pass the same thing Jeff Neely did... using the taxpayers as a personal piggybank.

Roger Clemens faces up to 30 years in prison, allegedly took drugs then lied about it to congress. Yet the president admitted to drug use, and the attorney general got caught lying to congress. Maybe Clemens is only being prosecuted until a spot opens up in the administration?

Anyway, thanks for verifying what I'd already figured out. Liberals have very malleable ethics.

I understand there are people who sincerely believe the trip
to SA and Michelle's decision to take family members with her
in this time of austerity was poorly advised. I have suggested
maybe an inquiry is appropriate although probably more expensive
than any monies that might be recouped. Perhaps there
would be some value in setting some common sense
guidelines for future junkets. Since the republican party owns
the house where simple majority rules, I see no problem
with them getting this off the ground and running if there
is truly such a sense of outrage.

My concern from the beginning has been Rob's vitriolic presentation.
Oh yeah! An angry republican. Like I didn't already know that.
The insinuation that Michelle Obama deliberately defrauded
the public and stole a half million dollars is ludicrous.
The difference in cost between her nephews going and her
nephews not going is certainly not more than $10,000, if that.

What will be more of a travesty is if the republicans spend
$150,000 on a political witch hunt. I don't think they will.
This is all sideshow and theatrical moral outrage.

Apparently that compass Disney's Capt. Jack Sparrow carries, the one that points to whatever he wants most, was modeled after the moral compass carried by liberals.

Whining about presentation instead of paying attention to the theft of taxpayer dollars is a diversion. Is there a fixed cutoff point on how much people you like are allowed to steal, or is it decided on a case by case basis?

Reminds me of the rich guy that asks a hot bridesmaid to come upstairs for a little fun in exchange for a Maserati.
Bridesmaid: I think I might be able to accomodate you... let's go.
Rich_Guy : No so fast. Would you do it for $50?
Bridesmaid: {indignant} Sir!! what kind of girl do you think I am?!
Rich_Guy : Darlin', we've already established that... we're just haggling over price.

I will chime in here again. I have been following all the posts and everyone has an opinon. So I will state mine (for the record).

I don't care if you are Republican, Democrate, Independent or whatever.

Being in office should (notice I said should) put you at a higher standard than anyone else. You are representing our country and the people of this country. I can say I am ashamed of our government (all of it). None of them should be getting away with any of it. And if you are caught you will be prosecuted or at the very least lose your job immediately. You are entrusted with our money that we pay in good faith and you spend it to suit YOUR needs not ours. You have sex scandals which nobody should have gotten away with at all. If you can't control yourself then you can't control other aspects of your life and don't need to be in a position where others depend on you.

This goes for anyone. If you take a job you are a representative of that company/city/organization. As such you should act accordingly. Don't bring shame to them. If you don't like them then find another job. (I know it is hard to do nowadays) but have some pride. Take the Secret Service fiasco. They have severly damaged the Secret Service's reputation.

This is just my opinion for what it is worth. I will get off my soapbox now. LOL

A REMINDER FOR US ALL

One of the reasons I have always loved this community is because it is the one place that people can go on the net and discuss their thoughts (as long as they are not hate type rants) and have no fears that they will be flamed. It is a place where people can agree to disagree without being disrespectful. Other forums may let conversational topics turn into a virtual bloodbath of rudeness, but that is not who WE are as a community.

Perhaps every now and then, this is something we all need to remember.
