Wiretapping Is a Good Thing

Evidently, wiretapping is a good thing in other countries. Take a look at these articles then tell me why people spend so much time talking about the US when at least we have a consitution and the ACLU (as much as I disagree with em) to stand up for peoples rights.

Hmmmm, let's start with Canada:

And ofcourse, the Netharlands:

The Netherlands has the highest rate of wiretapping of any European country—a surprising fact, given the country's reputation for cozy coffee bars, not invasive police tactics. Dutch police can tap any phone they like, so long as the crime under investigation carries at least a three-year jail term.
Police state!

You have a constitution AND the Patriot Act (which kind of makes the constitution null and void).
If you don't think "null and void" is an accurate description of the constitution, you can always use the phrase "just a God damned piece of paper". I believe I heard it referred to in that manner somewhere.

Did you not know that we have our own version of the constitution here in Canada?
We call it the Charter Of Rights And Freedoms, but it basically serves the same purpose.
We even have our own version of the ACLU!

In the absence of a valid arguement, this usually forms the basis of a reply.

How on earth do you figure that the Patriot Act makes our Constitution "null and void"? Y'know, I tend to agree with most of what you say, but for the life of me, I just don't know where you're coming from tonight.

The Patriot Act allows your government a lot of leeway with the constitution if they use the buzzword "terrorist" to justify an unconstitutional action. Under the guise of homeland security, the Patriot Act could be used for a great many things that "normally" would be unconstitutional.

The constitution is supposed to protect you from your government. If the government can side step the constitution in the manner above, how can it protect you?

I really wish Zap would stop red repping me when I am simply asking someone not to be a smartass to me

We can't always have what we want can we?

Yes. Read the articles. The US seems to not be the only one "taking away rights to privacy". There was a whole thread bashing the US for it I don't see threads about the Netherlands and Canada popping up about this from the same people that are bashing the US!

Everyone? So many was an slight exaggeration... 5-6... better? Just seems like "so many" because they are the most active ones.

I come to the site because I like the information they have outside of the General Area, I read a lot outside of here ya know, yet can't help but be drawn into the debate in the general area because I have a very strong opinion on matters.

It just gets to me when Zap so much opposes me calling someone stupid yet will agree with someone else calling me dumb. That is what an hypocrite is.

How about we get over the name calling and move onto the topics at hand?

Kay, thanks.

I think people really object to anyone name-calling. It doesn't lend anything to your argument and actually, it cheapens it. You seem like a passionate guy with strong opinions and I think that's great, really I do. But I do think that even if you feel someone is stupid or a hypocrite, there are better ways to go about saying that than slamming someone with a dismissive name. Maybe you don't mean to seem as dismissive or as harsh as you come across, I hope not at least. But I think there are ways to get your point across without resorting to name calling, and I, for one, would sincerely appreciate it if you would try to hold them in, just a bit
