54 Christmas Trees As Americans Face Fiscal Cliff

Quote:
Amazing how a reelection can reshape an incumbent's thinking about many things. Now safely ensconced in the White House for 49 more months, the Obamas have decorated the place with 54 Christmas trees this year.

That does seem a bit excessive but RHIP.

I would rather be pissed about the cliff which he has every intention of taking us over just to pander to the party. He has a plan to wait until January and then call for a tax cut for the middle class only. Now how the heck can any sane minded politician not vote for that and expect to get reelected?

Recession.. What recession!! This guy is spending your tax-payers money like it's going out of fashion.

Next he'll be doing what Sadam Hussein did and spending the peoples tax money and have all his staff carry gold plated guns

Regardless of the political party, I just truly believe with so many of the people struggling right now, these types of excesses are totally disrespectful. A conservative approach this holiday season with a focus on those in need would have shown care and concern for what people are going through. Just my 2 cents...

I agree Cricket and I actually toned down my comments from what I originally was going to say.

Respect, or even lack of, is earnt by ones actions and these people are so far out of touch with reality that it stuns me.

I may sound a little harsh but when a nation is in recession and especially at christmas time when people really feel the pinch , it just doesn't seem right for the leader to go spend tax payers money on 54 xmas tress. Something quite wrong about that.

For some reason it doesn't even matter to me who did or didn't pay for the trees. It is the lavish display at a time when the country is deeply divided and hurting. It's like rubbing salt in an open wound...

Why not take 53 of those trees to those families that won't have a tree this year or better yet, sell them and feed Christmas dinner to hungry families.

Yeah, I know I sound dorky but something about it all just really irks me.

Everybody talk about the fiscal cliff, cuts here, cuts there, etc... but I think the US Congress salaries and benefits should also be cut to lead by example! ;-)

@ Natural Elements - Are you kidding, those guys take a cut?.. There's more chance of one of Colonel Gadaffi's kids becoming the next President

Ok, maybe a slight exageration!

I think Natural Elements'idea isn't bad, but unfortunately G10 is right, it is hard to hope that's gonna happen.

I do think that there is little regard in the administration - or from most of the Washington in-crowd - for Americans who are feeling the pinch of this economy and several hurricanes.

I know people who have dead trees in their yards aren't buying Christmas lights. We're doing fine but we were doing better before the storms and election. From what I've read, that hold true across the country.

I have to wonder why Presidents stopped going to places like Camp David for their retreats away from Washington

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camp_David

Let's consider the vast amenities associated with living in the white house ... why even leave home?

http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/inside-white-house

I do know that most of the articles about spending on the administration are biased but it's really amazing.... there has to be some truth here:

http://thetruthwins.com/archives/us-...e-royal-family

People used to complain about Bush heading to Crawford ... seems like those trips were a lot less expensive for the American people.

I agree with the posts in this thread that indication that all those Christmas trees are just a symptom of a bigger issue.

And I agree, Cricket, seems like the money for the trees could have been put to better use.

By the way, has anyone seen Lincoln (and not the vampire slayer one)

Were you amazed by how different conditions in the White House were then?
