Beware of Phishing e-mails and the dirty tricks

I once received emails and text messages saying that I won something and in order to get the prize I need to pay some amount but when you googled the said promo or the very same person you are talking to it was a fraud.

phishing is quite old these days. Most of the free servers that people use for phishing can now detect and block phishing pages. Also many antivirus programs has anti phishing features

I received a weird message before, too. It said "Hi, Anna! Congratulations! The last four digits of your Visa card ****5978 has been picked in our yearly drawing and you just won $1 million plus a brand new car! Contact 876-441-8852 and look for Miss Claire to claim your prize."

My name is not Anna but the numbers were correct, they were indeed the last four digits of my Visa card number. Was it a coincidence?

I became more alarmed when I pulled up several complaints at CALLERCENTER, associating the phone number to the drawing scam. What if the caller had my Visa card details? If not, how would that caller have gotten the last four digits of my card number?

I would recommend that you talk with your bank, if somebody have the last four digits of your card number, they might have more.

Fakes are usually easy to spot. Had a few 'genuine looking' Paypal ones and just forwarded the address to their team. Email providers can usually highlight phishing emails straight away now. Half the bank ones you get have terrible grammar.

The latest slew of phish I have been getting are from "Manager So-and-so" with the 'shipment information'. Usually a zip file or pdf. They are indeed getting better, but our vigilance has also been heightened.

A lot of that actually are coming into mails like you have won and claim some inheritance from some "rich" family and selected you as one of the recipients. I also recieved mails like I got some package and need to verify with them to receive it, without any details on who've sent or what the package is...

These guys are really desperate and crazy to actually come up with this email scam.
