Would you boycott over GMO's?

I was looking through a list of emails that I get from a gentleman who is sometimes on the fringe - he's so nice I keep myself on his list - and every once in a while I get a heads up to something interesting like this blog posting about companies who use GMO products without labelling them as such.

The author calls the article the Grocery Store Black List.

The companies include Coca Cola and General Mills. Campbells also made the list.

Do you care about GMO or do you think it's just another red herring?

Do you make a distinction in your head regarding non-GMO and non-hybridized?

Would you ever consider boycotting businesses like the one on this list to make a political point?

I would prefer companies ot be forthcoming with their information and yes I would boycott them for not telling people.

GMO's in the US are played down to the public by your governments and by your food standards agency.

I am from the UK but I always advise people to take a look at France as they come down pretty hard on companies regarding GMO. Now either they know something we don't, or their governments care that little bit more for its people and are a little more honest.

Actually it's a little of both as France is very strict on GMO products.

People can say what want about France but one good thing about their system and that is that their goernment puts it's people above profit when it comes to food.

Some US products containing GMO ingredients give me allergies, so I use some natural products.

We talked about GMO many times in this forum, perhaps you have to take a look at what we said, the health risks, the reckless tests, the monopoly of trademarked seeds, the impacts on farmers and environment, etc.

I found scandalous that GMO are not labeled in US, and like G10 said in France and also in Europe people stay away from these products because there is not enough data about the consumption consequences, and honestly natural products taste better and are healthier.

Concern for my own health is reason enough to boycott GMO "foods".
(Have to use the term "food" loosely when referring to GMO)

It's difficult to eat 100% organic, but I am constantly striving to get as close as I reasonably can.
It doesn't help matters that it costs more to eat organic foods.

Yes I have posted several times on FB about GMO products I am on a list of several alternative health websites and they all agree GMO products are dangerous. And they are putting the farmers out of business because of their terminator seeds! So no your friend is not "out there". The only reason he is "out there" is because he is telling you the truth probably.

I'm definitely concerned about GMOs and try to avoid them whenever possible. There is still quite a bit of conflicting information on the subject, though, so it's hard to determine which side is correct. Best to play it safe.

I guess I started this thread to find out if you all really "vote with your pocket book".

Many times folks get up in arms about an issue like GMO foods but still keep eating the same things from the same companies.

They don't support their beliefs with actions.

I was surprised to see Cascadian Farms on the list. That's one company I thought would not use GMO products.

I have made it a point to purchase food in it's most original form and we don't eat many processed foods so fortunately a good portion of what we eat is non-gmo.

I've started a big garden this year and used heirloom where possible but used hybrids to take advantage of features like heat tolerance and split resistance (for tomatoes).

It's just too bad food has become so complicated. Who cares if you can "feed the world" but the world dies of cancer. (Thanks so much, Monsanto.)

It's also become more expensive to eat good food.
You have to be careful AND willing to give up other things if you're not rich.

You are really correct. I can't believe the prices of things like bananas, peppers and grapes.

Using corn for ethanol isn't helping food prices either.

We all pay for the higher price of gas in all the things we purchase.

So, I pay more for gasoline, then have less money to pay for higher priced foods.

Special.

Americans are so easy going. Apparently, no one is noticing.

MONSANTO LIST of GMO FOODS TO AVOID

Quote:
It’s virtually impossible to provide a complete list of genetically modified
food (GM food) in the United States because there aren’t any laws for
genetically modified crops!

Some estimates say as many as 30,000 different products on grocery store shelves are "modified." That's
largely because many processed foods contain soy. Half of North
America's soy crop is genetically engineered!

Quote:
"History has many records of crimes against humanity, which were also justified by dominant commercial interests and governments of the day. Despite protests from
citizens, social justice for the common good was eroded in favour of
private profits. Today, patenting of life forms and the genetic
engineering which it stimulates, is being justified on the grounds that
it will benefit society, especially the poor, by providing better and
more food and medicine. But in fact, by monopolising the 'raw'
biological materials, the development of other options is deliberately
blocked. Farmers therefore, become totally dependent on the corporations
for seeds." - Professor Wangari Mathai.

Sometimes, we can really think that they want us to be drugged and sick with regulators and government approving it.

I totally understand where you are coming from, but don't blame the American people too much.

I used to date a nutritionist who is heavily into all this and one thing I know is that the FDA do an amazing job of shielding certain information from the people, so it is not completely the peoples fault.

What is also interesting is knowing who is funding the FDA. Once one understands that, then people understand why certain information is kept away from people.

Dear Citizen for Health,

We thought you'd be interested in this new post by FoodIdentityTheft blogger and frequent CFH contributor, Linda Bonvie: Corn Refiners Admit HFCS with 90 Percent Fructose Used "for Decades".

And please remember to sign the petition calling for proper labeling of products containing HFCS.

This was in an e-mail from Citizens from health thought I would post it here for your information. And we wonder why we all have sugar problems??
